The 2025 National U16 5x5 Basketball Championship, organized by the Vietnam Basketball Federation, took place in Binh Thuan Province from June 18 to 26. This is a tournament highly appreciated by experts. It is an expected playground for U16 basketball talents nationwide.
The U16 Basketball Team of the PK-KQ Peak Military Service participated in this year's Tournament with 12 official members, under the leadership of Mr. Bui Thanh Binh - Head of the delegation, Head Coach: Pham Thanh Tung, Coach Nguyen Tien Duong. Right in the qualifying matches, the athletes of PK-KQ Peak entered the match with a united, disciplined, strong and equally flexible and creative playing style - the true qualities of true "soldiers in uniform".

The Air Defense - Air Force Service has been very famous in the basketball world with players of national quality. But this is the first time the U16 team of teachers wearing military uniforms has brought home the prestigious Silver Medal.
Creating the miracle for U16 PK-KQ Peak this year, it is the coaching duo Pham Thanh Tung and Nguyen Tien Duong - the ones who nurtured and led the team from the very first days of its establishment.
Head coach Pham Thanh Tung played for the Vietnamese national team at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. He has extensive experience playing as a center forward in Southeast Asian competitions for Hanoi Buffaloes and Saigon Heat.
Coach Nguyen Tien Duong is one of the main players of PK-KQ. He used to play for many professional clubs in Vietnam such as Saigon Heat, Thang Long Warriors and Hanoi Buffaloes.

The coaches have worked together to train an excellent generation of young military basketball players. From physical exercises to technical and tactical training, the coaches have not only trained the players to compete but also instilled in them a spirit of steel – something that makes this team unique.
“In addition to basketball techniques, we train the players in the mindset of soldiers. We instill in them discipline, willpower, and the ability to calmly overcome difficulties. We hope that after the tournament, the players will continue to practice, nurture their passion, and be able to participate in many prestigious tournaments in the future,” coach Pham Thanh Tung shared on the sidelines of the tournament.

Basketball fans were very surprised when U16 PK-KQ Peak defeated Hanoi 1 in the semi-finals. Because before that, Hanoi 1 had won consecutively in the national U16 tournament; it was considered a candidate for the championship this season. The semi-final match between PK-KQ Peak and Hanoi 1 was extremely dramatic, with thrilling details throughout the match, causing a sports expert to comment: The entire match could be made into a movie.

The semi-final match between Hanoi 1 and PKKQ Peak was truly a thrilling encounter. With a cohesive style of play, tight defense, excellent blocking and sharp attacks, Coach Tung - Duong's students played persistently and resiliently, making it difficult for their opponents to continuously deploy their tactics. The narrow victory of 63-62 was truly a great effort by the "steel eagles" and their players. This victory helped PK-KQ change the color of the medals of the 2024 National U16 tournament.
In the final match that followed, despite their best efforts, U16 PK-KQ Peak had to accept the Silver medal after losing to a more experienced team. But clearly, this was not a sad ending – because the Silver medal was a brilliant achievement when it was the first time Coach Pham Thanh Tung and Nguyen Tien Duong sent their students to the field.

Moreover, what U16 PK-KQ Peak left behind was not only the competition results, but also the image of a well-organized team with a strong will and a collective playing style imbued with military spirit, demonstrating the philosophy of comprehensive human education in the army: physical training, will, discipline and team spirit.

One lucky thing for the U16 PK-KQ Peak "warriors" this year is the great encouragement from their seniors from the Air Defense - Air Force Academy. The fans in military uniforms cheered enthusiastically, giving the players more strength.
The 2025 National 5X5 U16 Basketball Championship has 20 teams from 14 strong basketball units across the country. Of which, 6 are women's basketball teams and 14 are men's basketball teams.

At the end of the Tournament, in the men's category, First Place - Gold Medal was awarded to the Ho Chi Minh City team, Second Place - Silver Medal was awarded to the players of PKKQ Peak. Third Place went to the players of Hanoi 1 and Bac Ninh Pitbullsa.
In the women's category, First Place: Hanoi Team; Second Place: Ho Chi Minh City Team; tied for Third Place are Binh Thuan and Binh Dinh Warhorse.
