Wings of Dreams
Since birth, both sisters Le Dinh Hoang Quynh (25 years old) and Le Dinh Hoang Quyen (22 years old, Cam Thanh ward, Quang Ngai province) have been congenitally deaf.
Ms. Dinh Thi Dung (mother of the two children) shared that when Quynh was born, she thought her child could not speak yet. It was more than a year later that she took her to an ENT doctor and found out that she was deaf. Later, when Quyen was born, Ms. Dung also discovered that her youngest daughter was just like her older sister. “Of the three children, the eldest brother was healthy and normal, but when I gave birth to Quynh and Quyen, they were like that… It makes me sad to think about it!”, she said.

Not accepting her fate, Mrs. Dung took her child to seek treatment everywhere, from the South to the North, going wherever someone told her where to go. She hoped for a miracle, but after long trips, the answer was still only a helpless shake of the head.
Loving her child, Mrs. Dung sent her child to Da Nang to study and then transferred him to Quang Ngai to study at the Vo Hong Son Center for Children with Disabilities.
During that journey, Mrs. Dung realized that her son had a talent for painting when she discovered his paintings hidden in his school bag. Wishing to nurture his talent, she took him to find an art teacher, but no school would accept deaf children. Standing before the closed door, Quyen boldly shared with his mother that he wanted to learn on his own.
Quyen searched for pictures online, persistently practiced drawing them, then bought her own colors and brushes to practice. Mrs. Dung still clearly remembers the picture her youngest daughter drew when she was young: “When I was very young, I went to Da Nang and saw a train passing by. Quyen picked up a pen and drew that image and pointed at the train.”
Communicating with Quyen in writing, she shared: “Here, there are almost no deaf people who are independent in the business of painting and art supplies like the two sisters. Painting is not only a passion but also a means for us to express ourselves, freely create and contribute value to society.”
Draw your own dreams
The "Tu Luc" art gallery is the dream of two sisters Quynh and Quyen. When the two sisters decided to turn their house into a place to foster their passion for painting, Mrs. Dung supported them wholeheartedly.
Ms. Dung shared: “Right in the living room, I arranged and decorated it into a gallery for the two sisters. Seeing my children eagerly placing brushes, stands, colors, etc., I was both happy and touched. The gallery opened in 2018 and has been growing and receiving many customers who love and order paintings. I just hope that my children can be self-reliant like the name Tu Luc.”
If Quynh is passionate about drawing flowers, Quyen often draws pictures of the homeland's landscapes, country and portraits of people, containing the rustic, familiar breath of life.

Quyen shared: “The biggest difficulty for the two sisters is the communication barrier. Managing the business and developing art at the same time requires a lot of effort. Therefore, the two sisters always try to study hard, set clear goals, and stay optimistic.”
The sisters’ gallery and art shop attract customers from many places. Quyen also uses social media to promote her work, organize workshops, and connect with the art-loving community. Quyen hopes that in the future this place will become a sustainable art destination in Quang Ngai.

“I hope to not only inspire many other deaf people to dare to pursue their passion and be independent in life, but also create a long-term, sustainable environment for everyone to learn, exchange and develop artistic skills,” Quyen shared.
The lives of the two sisters gradually stabilized. Great joy came when Quynh got married and welcomed her first healthy child. With shining eyes, Quynh confided: "I believe that, despite having disabilities, everyone can still reach for their dreams, have a stable job and a happy family." That was not only a sharing, but also a burning belief, a hope that gives strength to many people in the same situation.
