According to Chosun newspaper , on August 8, a post appeared on a Korean online forum with the title "Women's sauna where naked women can be seen from outside".
The poster said he discovered the incident during a three-night family vacation at a popular hotel in Gyeongsangbuk Province, southeastern South Korea.
Specifically, while walking on the lawn on the first floor and looking around the hotel, this person noticed that on the third floor there was someone undressing and walking around in the sauna area. After observing carefully, he realized that it was a female sauna.
“From the outside, the back and shoulders of the person inside can be clearly seen. Even for tall people, the lower body can be exposed when changing clothes,” the person recounted in the online post.
He said that after complaining to the hotel and returning to the room, his wife felt embarrassed and could not sleep because she thought her body had been seen.
He also expressed his frustration that the lawn is a public place with many people passing by, but the hotel staff did not detect the problem during this time.
To verify, this person asked the hotel to coordinate a test and discovered that not only the sauna area but also the changing room could be observed from the outside, even clearly seeing the silhouette and clothes of the person inside.
The hotel said the sauna glass was originally covered with protective film to block outside visibility, but the film may have been damaged due to the recent heat.
After receiving the complaint, the hotel immediately closed the sauna and repaired it during the day.
The hotel representative also said that it was not yet clear when the film was damaged and that it had not received any previous similar complaints from guests. At the same time, the hotel apologized to guests staying there and pledged to make efforts to prevent recurrence.
This is not the first time a similar incident has occurred. In 2021, the Grand Josun Jeju Hotel on Jeju Island, southern South Korea, was criticized when its sauna was exposed, affecting guests staying there.
The hotel admitted that due to an operational error, some areas had no curtains. They adjusted their procedures to ensure that curtains were always drawn during operating hours.
