(NLDO) - The mysterious pharaoh was buried about 3,550-3,700 years ago on Anubis, a sacred mountain with a pyramid-shaped peak in Sohag province, central Egypt.

According to a press release from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, recent excavations of the Mount Anubis necropolis have revealed a mysterious royal tomb, identified as the resting place of an unidentified pharaoh.

The tomb consists of a limestone burial chamber covered by mud-brick vaults, 5 m high and located at a depth of 7 m,

Inside the tomb are inscriptions on both sides of the entrance, referring to Isis and Nephthys, goddesses worshiped by the ancient Egyptians.

Additionally, inside the tomb there are golden inscriptions that may have once carried the owner's name in hieroglyphics. They are now significantly damaged, with only a few motifs and texts remaining.

Dr. Joseph Wagner from the University of Pennsylvania (USA), head of the archaeological team, said the architectural style and decoration of the tomb are very similar to the tomb of Pharaoh Woseribre Senebkay, also discovered by the team he led in 2014.

Pharaoh Woseribre Senebkay reigned during the Second Intermediate Period of ancient Egypt (approximately 1,700–1,550 years ago).

Therefore, the mysterious pharaoh on Mount Anubis is believed to also belong to this period.

"This tomb provides new evidence of royal burial practices in the region and helps to deepen our understanding of the complex political context of that era," Heritage Daily quoted Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Mount Anubis where the tomb was discovered is a sacred mountain with a pyramid-shaped peak located in the Abydos desert, Sohag province, central Egypt.

This peak marks the funerary complex built during the reign of Pharaoh Senwosret III, who reigned from 1878-1839 BC, during the 12th Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom of Egypt.
