Dog found wandering on top of Egyptian pyramid

(CLO) While paragliding over the top of the famous pyramid in Egypt, a paraglider suddenly discovered a dog wandering on top of this majestic structure.

While flying over Egypt's famous Khafre pyramid at dawn earlier this week, American paraglider Marshall Mosher and his companions spotted an unexpected sight: a hunting dog atop the pyramid, also taking in the sights surrounding the ancient wonder.

"We noticed something running back and forth on top of the pyramid. Some people thought it was a lion," Mosher said.

The explorers quickly grabbed their phones and zoomed in on the top of Khafre, where humans are not allowed, and spotted a dog seemingly chasing some birds on the top of the 136-meter-high structure.

Mosher recalls feeling a little nervous. “Maybe it’s stuck there?” he thought. But his worries quickly dissipated.

"If it can go up by itself, it can come down by itself unless there is a secret portal that helps it teleport to the top of the pyramid," he joked.

The next day, curious to see if the dog was still there, they flew over the pyramid again but saw nothing. However, a fellow traveler captured video of a dog carefully climbing down the pyramid.

It’s unclear whether it was the same dog that was on top of the pyramid the other day, as hundreds of stray dogs roam the pyramid complex, some of them hanging around near the base, Mosher explained. He’s actively seeking animal rescues in Cairo to help these strays find safer, less adventurous homes.

The dog's video quickly went viral on social media, with Mosher's first post hitting millions of views on Instagram overnight.

Some commentators have pointed out a connection between the dog and Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of death, often depicted as a man with the head of a jackal.

Mosher regularly paraglides over the Giza pyramids as part of an annual flight event organised by SkyOne Egypt. “I can see why the dog would want to go up there. It’s definitely the best view for a street dog in Cairo,” he said.
