Hoa Hao Buddhism contributes to social security

Social and charitable activities (SCC) are one of the four key tasks set forth by the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church (Hoa Hao Buddhist Church) in recent years, implemented from the Central Executive Committee to the grassroots level. The followers have enthusiastically participated in social security work, sustainable poverty reduction, and joined hands with other religions to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.

The "2 an" model (security and order, social security) was signed by the Provincial Police with the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha since the end of 2020. The content of the coordination regulations focuses on exchanging information, taking care of the lives and religious activities of Hoa Hao Buddhist followers. At the same time, guiding and creating favorable conditions for people in handling administrative procedures; coordinating the propaganda of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws and local regulations. Thereby, followers raise their vigilance, proactively prevent, detect, fight, and stop peaceful evolution plots, sabotage activities of hostile forces; methods and tricks of all kinds of crimes, social evils, traffic safety, fire prevention and fighting, etc.

At the grassroots level, the Hoa Hao followers actively participate in the movement of the whole people to protect national security, social security activities, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas. After 5 years of implementing the model, the people and Hoa Hao followers provided over 3,500 crime reports, helping the police force to fight and clarify over 2,000 cases involving over 6,300 law violators. Social security work was coordinated between the two sides, mobilizing 165 billion VND to help support poor households and households in difficult circumstances; building houses, bridges, rural roads, buying free ambulances for hospital transfers; and providing free medicine to thousands of people across the province.

In 2025, the Charity and Social Affairs Committee directed the grassroots to focus on implementing the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Government. Putting aside unnecessary activities, the grassroots executive committee and localities have made efforts to complete the goal early. Deputy Head of the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha Le Ngoc Loi said that in the first 6 months of the year, the social work in the entire religion achieved more than 294 billion VND. In particular, implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, followers of the entire religion supported 1,250 new houses, repaired 12 houses and donated materials to support house construction, with a total value of over 70.5 billion VND. In An Giang province alone, 576 new houses were built and 12 houses were repaired, with a total cost of more than 20 billion VND.

Head of the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha Nguyen Tan Dat shared: “We really appreciate the attention of the provincial leaders and functional sectors in the past time. Since the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha has been operating in an organized manner recognized by the State, the religious activities of each year have been higher than the previous year. We have widely shared this achievement among our fellow believers, thanks to the Party and State's policies and guidelines respecting freedom of religious belief. Therefore, each term has made innovations and consulted with leaders of specialized sectors to come up with a religious program that best suits the specific situation of the country. For a long time, religious activities have been carried out according to the criteria of asking from the rich for the poor. In the coming time, the Church will strive to propagate and guide the poor so that they can also contribute according to their resources and capabilities to society and the community.”

Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang emphasized that since the establishment of the Hoa Hao Buddhism, with the motto "For the Dharma, for the nation", the purpose of "Learning Buddhism, cultivating oneself", the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhism Church and followers have joined hands with the entire political system of the province to build and develop the locality. The provincial leaders praised the achievements of the officials and followers of the entire religion and hoped that in the coming time, the Central Executive Committee would continue to promote the great national unity bloc, guide followers to well implement the Party's policies and the State's laws, live "Good life, good religion", and build a rich and civilized An Giang province.

Effective models and activities have been maintained by PGHH followers over the years such as: Charity rice and porridge kitchen, giving gifts to the poor, contributing to the Spring Tree fund, building houses, collecting traditional medicine... Currently, the whole religion is also promoting new activities, suitable to the requirements of society, such as: Developing traditional medicine clinics, promoting education, patriotic emulation movements launched by the Government, provinces, and localities.
