C.Ronaldo's unexpected reaction when not nominated for the Golden Ball

(Dan Tri) - For the second consecutive year, C. Ronaldo and Messi have not been nominated for the Golden Ball award. The 40-year-old striker responded to this with an optimistic message.

Despite scoring 33 goals last season and helping Portugal win the Nations League, C. Ronaldo is still not on the list of 30 nominees for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

After France Football magazine (the organizer of the Golden Ball award) announced the nomination, C. Ronaldo responded with an optimistic message: "Keep trying, there is still much to do". Along with that, this player posted a picture celebrating a goal with Al Nassr.

At the age of 40, C. Ronaldo still has an extremely strong desire to win. However, not playing at the top level in Europe is a factor that makes the Portuguese superstar not strong enough to compete for the Golden Ball award.

PSG, the reigning Champions League champions, dominate with nine nominations for the Ballon d'Or, with notable names including Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In addition, Lamine Yamal has emerged as a strong candidate to compete with PSG players for the Ballon d'Or. If he wins the Ballon d'Or, Yamal will become the youngest player to win the award.

Earlier this year, C. Ronaldo made a controversial statement regarding the Golden Ball award: “Those awards are gradually losing their prestige. I don’t mean to say that Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe don’t deserve the award. Simply, I no longer believe in the Golden Ball or The Best.”

The list was nominated by the journalists of France Football and L'Équipe. Then, 100 journalists representing the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings will vote, selecting the top 10 individuals in order.

The judging criteria include: individual performance, impact in big matches, team achievements, playing style and fair play. Note that players are not eligible to vote (this only applies to FIFA's The Best award).

This is the 69th Ballon d'Or award ceremony since the prestigious award was established in 1956, organized by the prestigious magazine France Football. The ceremony will take place on September 22 at the Châtelet Theater (Paris).
