Nguyen Thi Hong Men is currently a student of the Chemistry Department, University of Science , Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Recently, Men won the BenQ Materials Scholarship - an international scholarship from the leading corporation in technology and electronic engineering for students aiming to pursue a career in materials science.
Men will be awarded a scholarship for two years of master's degree at National Yangming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan (China), with a commitment to ensure employment after graduation for the same period. What is special is that the female student won this scholarship while still in her third year at the University of Natural Sciences.

Born into a poor family in Hung Yen, Men's parents ran small businesses on the sidewalk. Seeing their parents having to stay up late, wake up early, work "in the sun, in the rain", struggling to make ends meet , Men had more motivation to study hard.
“Despite the hardships, my parents always let me freely choose my own path and trust me completely. To me, that is the luckiest thing,” Men said.
Before coming to the Chemistry Department of the University of Natural Sciences, Men said there was a time when he found Chemistry complicated and difficult to absorb, and he was even weak at this subject.
I never thought I would love Chemistry, but when I was in 10th grade, my Chemistry teacher helped me consolidate my basic knowledge, turning dry lessons into lively ones. Men gradually found interest and began to cherish the desire to study a major related to this subject.
Passing the high school graduation exam, Men was admitted to the high-quality Pharmaceutical Chemistry class of the University of Natural Sciences. In the first years of university, getting used to the new environment, Men, who was a quiet and rather self-conscious person, encountered many difficulties.
“However, I always prioritize studying and try not to let other factors affect me. Luckily, studying at this school helps me access a highly academic environment, and my foundation in Chemistry is also thoroughly prepared,” Men said.

Never thought of studying abroad, but in the second year, under the guidance of teachers in the Chemistry department, Men gradually realized that studying abroad would bring her many opportunities to experience, interact and learn in an international environment. The female student is especially interested in schools in Asia such as Taiwan (China), Singapore, Korea...
The opportunity came when Men learned about the summer exchange program of National University of Yangming Jiaotong, which included the BenQ Materials scholarship selection round. After careful research and consideration, Men decided to prepare her application and interview process, focusing on highlighting her personal orientation and development potential.
At that time, the female student had a GPA of 3.65/4.0, and was awarded the title of 5 Good Students at the school level for two consecutive years. At the same time, from the second year, Men also participated in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory of the Chemistry Department to improve her research capacity.
During the interview, the female student expressed clear thinking, specific learning goals, research orientation, and feelings about studying and living in Taiwan.
“Overall, I think my profile clearly shows my strengths that match the scholarship criteria. I clearly identified that I want to develop in the field of advanced materials, applied in medical equipment. Perhaps, the suitability is the factor that makes me selected,” Men said.
Despite careful preparation, when receiving the results, Men still felt surprised, even "unbelievable".

As an instructor at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory, Associate Professor Dr. Mac Dinh Hung was impressed with Men's will to strive.
“Winning a master’s scholarship in the third year like Men is very rare. This partly shows Men’s great effort and determination,” said Mr. Hung.
Currently, Men is focusing on completing his bachelor's degree program at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Science, while improving his English and Chinese to be able to adapt to the international learning environment in the future.
The female student plans to continue to pursue further in the field of materials, focusing on research directions with high potential for application in science and technology.
