Effective chicken chain

In recent times, the Vien Dong Agricultural and Trade Service Cooperative ( Phu Yen village, Tam Dan commune, Phu Ninh) has been operating stably, creating a good income for farmers with a linkage model to create a chain of bantam chicken products. In 2023, the Cooperative will build a linkage chain with 13 households in Phu Ninh district, forming a specialized bantam chicken farming area.

By June 2025, from the initial 143,000 bantam chickens, the Cooperative had organized 6 crops, harvested more than 190,000 tons of chicken meat, achieved revenue of more than 15.2 billion VND, profit of 2.6 billion VND. In addition, the Cooperative also cooperated, raised and consumed native chickens and sugarcane chickens with an average consumption output of more than 40,000 chickens per year.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh in Phu Yen village, who participates in the bantam chicken chain with Vien Dong Agricultural and Trade Service Cooperative, said that the bantam chicken raising process is strictly built by the Cooperative. In addition to investing in barns that meet requirements, he also focuses on protecting the environment, using biological products, and not using antibiotics so that the commercial bantam chickens are of good quality, ensuring food safety and hygiene according to market requirements.

After each 3-month chicken raising season, he supplies 11,000 bantam chickens to the cooperative, weighing more than 14 tons, earning a profit of nearly 60 million VND. Mr. Thanh raises bantam chickens that are disease-free, so there is little risk. Income from raising bantam chickens in a chain is higher than other farming and breeding models.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Vien - Director of Vien Dong Agricultural and Trade Service Cooperative said that through market monitoring, the Cooperative has noticed that consumers are increasingly inclined to use safe food. Therefore, the Cooperative has chosen to raise bantam chickens, bringing breeds from the Southwest region to raise in the Phu Ninh area. Up to now, the Cooperative has expanded the scale of chain farming by linking with farmers in the province and some areas of Quang Ngai and Quang Binh .

“In the process of raising bantam chickens in a chain, we received capital support from the People's Committee of Phu Ninh district and support for building VietGAP chicken farming from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Environment). The initial success was thanks to the methodical and sustainable farming methods of farmers and the acceptance of the market inside and outside the province,” said Ms. Vien.

Market Connection

Mr. Dang Van Tinh - Head of Planning and Inspection Department (Quang Nam Cooperative Union) said that up to now, in the province, there are many cooperatives building production and business linkage chains.

Typically, Binh Dao Agricultural Cooperative and Binh Nam Agricultural and Service Cooperative (in the same district of Thang Binh) have linked up with businesses and farmers to create a chain of black sesame, rice seeds, lotus, peanuts, etc., achieving high economic value.

Duy Oanh Green Agriculture Cooperative (Duy Xuyen) has cooperated with farmers to grow abundant raw materials of black beans and green beans, purchasing and processing to create Duy Oanh brown rice and seaweed cakes, Duy Oanh cereal powder which are well received by the market...

According to Mr. Dang Van Tinh, the initial success of agricultural production chains in the province has two outstanding features: cooperatives linking with farmers for effective production and cooperatives connecting supply and demand, trading to expand the consumption market.

In addition, many cooperatives in Quang Nam also export goods. For example, Best One Cooperative (An Phu Ward, Tam Ky City) exports noni products from its association with farmers to China; Cordyceps Mushroom Cooperative (Tam Phu Commune, Tam Ky City) exports goods to Thailand.

Quang Nam cooperatives are currently very interested in trade promotion, participating in connection programs organized by the Cooperative Union, the industry and trade sector and the province's startup program. Through that, products from the cooperative's chain with farmers are widely promoted.

Mr. Le Ngoc Trung - Chairman of Quang Nam Cooperative Union said: "Linking production according to the chain and connecting the market for goods will create a driving force to transform the agricultural economy, rural areas, and develop the socio-economy in the province".

According to statistics, the province has 463 cooperatives. Cooperatives proactively register and promote the effectiveness of product brands in the market to maintain and expand the market, prevent unfair competition between enterprises; invest and carry out diverse linkages with other economic sectors to promote potential and create sustainable development force.
