Ho Chi Minh City farmers hit the jackpot with organic ST25 rice

The ST25 organic rice crop in Hung Long commune, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) was a big success with outstanding productivity and high purchase price. In the atmosphere of Independence Day, the joy of farmers multiplied, affirming the success of the clean and sustainable farming model with the support of businesses and the government.

The joy of a good harvest and good price

In early September, in the fields of Hung Long commune, the bustling sound of harvesters combined with the smiles of farmers signaled a bumper crop. Having been attached to the ST25 rice variety for many years, Mr. Tran My Hue’s family (Hamlet 18) is busy harvesting 9,000 m² of organic rice.

Mr. Hue excitedly shared that last year, there was a lot of rain and wind, causing the rice to fall over, but this year, the rice stood upright and had a good yield. With this area, his family harvested more than 2.6 tons, about 200 kg higher than the previous crop.

That joy is also spreading throughout the farming households in the region. In the bustling atmosphere of the harvest season, the joy of welcoming National Day on September 2nd further motivates people to expand the organic rice model.

"This year, the rice crop is good, importantly, it is a good harvest with high prices, so people are very excited. After a period of effective application, seeing this, many people also told each other that they will switch to organic farming and expand the rice acreage," said Mr. Tran My Hue.

This is the third summer-autumn crop in which the ST25 organic rice growing model has been tested and continues to yield high yields locally. With support from ABZ Import-Export Company Limited, farmers are guaranteed all products, supplied with agricultural materials at stable prices and paid immediately after harvest. This summer-autumn crop alone, the purchase price of fresh rice at the field reached 12,100 VND/kg, an exceptionally high price that makes farmers extremely excited.

Sharing more about this joy, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, a farmer in Hung Long commune, said: This crop was not knocked down by the storm, so the people are happy. The rice survived because this is the peak of the storm season, and it is also sold at a good price, so I think all local rice farmers are excited.

Towards clean and sustainable agriculture

This model has been agreed upon by many households, aiming towards clean agriculture. After the merger, Hung Long commune has a great advantage in agricultural land area to inherit and replicate effective models from old communes such as: Hung Long, Qui Duc, Da Phuoc. Up to now, the total area of organic ST25 rice cultivation in the commune has reached nearly 30 hectares.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hung Long Commune, the successful crop is an important encouragement for the commune to continue orienting towards modern agricultural development. During the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of the commune aims to strengthen coordination with departments and branches to support people in science and technology, training, and seedlings. At the same time, the commune will focus on linking existing models, moving towards establishing cooperatives and cooperative groups to create a stable production and consumption chain.

"In the coming time, the Commune Party Committee, together with the Farmers' Association and socio-political organizations in the area, will continue to pay attention, more specifically, to how to effectively link existing models that are being effectively implemented, towards establishing cooperatives or cooperative groups... This issue will be implemented soon to more effectively link production and consumption in the best way in the coming time to help people feel secure in production", said Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hanh.
