From July 1, 2025, Vietnam will officially operate with 34 administrative units at the provincial and municipal levels. This change will directly impact enrollment, especially the entrance exam for grade 10 public high schools.

Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026 will be held according to the new administrative boundaries. The merger requires the departments of education and training to synchronize the exam schedule, admission methods and enrollment quotas of the old localities. The 10th grade exam schedule is expected to take place at the end of May, the end of June or July, depending on the plan of each locality, but must be completed before July 31, 2026 according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .
This adjustment of the exam schedule is also to ensure that it does not overlap with the 2026 high school graduation exam schedule. Students and parents in localities with mergers need to closely monitor official information from the Department of Education and Training in their locality to update the enrollment plan.
Adjusting the school year time frame
To accommodate the earlier high school graduation exam schedule, the 2025-2026 school year will also see adjustments to the study and exam timeframe. The Ministry of Education and Training has issued a general timeframe, requiring schools to complete the school year earlier to accommodate the graduation exam schedule.
Accordingly, the first semester will end before January 18, 2026, and the entire school year program must end before May 31, 2026. The high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place on June 11 and 12, 2026, about two weeks earlier than previous years. In particular, enrollment for the first grades (grades 1, 6, and 10) must be completed before July 31, 2026.
These changes require not only adaptation from schools and students, but also close support from parents. Being proactive in seeking information and understanding new regulations will help students have a successful school year.
