For nearly 2 years, every Friday morning of the 2nd and 4th week of the month, in the lobby area of Pho Noi General Hospital, where the Women's Union of My Hao town distributes porridge, it has become a familiar address for patients being treated at the hospital.
Ms. Hoang Thi My Thu, President of the Women's Union of My Hao town, said: With the desire to share difficulties with patients, the Women's Union of the town has developed an implementation plan and called on groups, individuals, philanthropists, and businesses to support the "charity porridge" program.
Immediately after launching, the Women's Union of the town received support and companionship from My Hao Town Youth Union and Phuc Nguyen Computer Company. From September 2023 to now, the Association has cooked more than 40 pots of porridge with tens of thousands of servings given to patients and their families. The meaningful work has spread, the Association has also received support from many benefactors who donated thousands of banh khuc, banh bao and milk boxes to give to patients.
According to Ms. Thu, to complete the work, the afternoon before, the assigned women's union members will go to the market and prepare the ingredients. Early the next morning, they will focus on processing so that they can bring the porridge to the hospital by around 7am.
“A bite when hungry is worth a whole package when full”, each serving of porridge is a small gift but full of love and sharing, encouragement, and motivation for patients to have more health, joy, and peace of mind in treating their illness. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi, who is currently receiving inpatient treatment at Pho Noi General Hospital, said: Having a bowl of hot, nutritious porridge makes me feel very warm, all my fatigue seems to disappear.
Not only in My Hao town, the model of "Pot of love porridge" is also effectively maintained at Khoai Chau District Medical Center. Here, from the end of 2024 until now, the Charity Club of Chi Minh Commune (Khoai Chau) has organized free porridge distribution regularly every Wednesday morning. The club has more than 10 members, who regularly take turns cooking and distributing porridge.
Ms. Dao Thi Lan, Village 2, Chi Minh Commune, Club President said: Each porridge distribution session has 4-5 volunteers participating. Each time, we cook about 200 servings, costing about 800,000 VND, mostly contributed by members or supported by benefactors. We also spend our own money to buy pots, pans, and gas stoves to maintain long-term activities.
In addition to the club members, there were also members and youth of Khoai Chau District Medical Center actively participating in supporting, cooking porridge together, dividing portions and distributing them to patients.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huy, a relative of a patient being treated at Khoai Chau District Medical Center, emotionally shared: The bowl of porridge, although small, makes the patient feel the care and warmth of the community. It is a precious gift both materially and spiritually.
The model of “Pot of love porridge” is currently being deployed at many medical centers and hospitals in the province, such as: Provincial General Hospital, Hung Yen Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Pho Noi General Hospital, Hung Yen Lung Hospital , Khoai Chau District Medical Center … From here, tens of thousands of free porridge portions are given to patients in difficult circumstances. Not only sharing difficulties with the disadvantaged, the model of “Pot of love porridge” contributes to spreading love between people, promoting the tradition of mutual love and support of the nation.
