According to the latest report from Kaspersky Security Network (KSN), 1,120 employees at Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been exposed to malware.

Specifically, from January to May 2023, 710 malware files were detected, the total number of file detections in the first quarter of 2023 in Vietnam was 25,194. The number of threats targeting Vietnamese SMEs detected and blocked by Kaspersky has jumped compared to the same period last year (the total number of malware detections in the first half of 2022 was 1,240).
Malware attacks are devastating for small businesses because they can cripple equipment that requires costly repairs or replacement. Malware also gives attackers a back door to access and steal data, putting both customers and employees at risk.
“SMEs remain a lucrative target for cybercriminals as they generate 50% of Vietnam’s global GDP and form the backbone of the country’s economy . In the rapid digital transformation that SMEs are undergoing, it is crucial to take basic steps to protect your business from the evolving tactics and techniques of cybercriminals,” said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky.
Kaspersky also offers advice to protect businesses from cyber threats: Provide employees with basic cybersecurity training; Set up policies to control access to company assets, such as e-mail, shared folders and online documents; Create regular backups of essential data to ensure company information is safe in case of emergency; Use an endpoint security solution, such as Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business or Cloud-Based Endpoint Security, to minimize the risk of spreading…
