Passionate journalist

In 1961, after graduating from the Hanoi - Son Tay - Ha Dong Interprovincial Pedagogical School, young teacher Nguyen Dac Huu went to teach at Son Cong Secondary School, Ung Hoa District (Ha Dong). After only one year, when he was 22 years old, he was admitted to the Party and appointed as Principal of Vien Noi Secondary School in the same district. Every night, after grading papers and preparing lesson plans, by the light of a small oil lamp, he practiced writing news and articles to send to newspapers.
Perhaps, because of his affinity with journalism from those days, in 1964, Dac Huu was assigned by the Ha Dong Provincial Party Committee to work as a reporter for the provincial Party Committee's newspaper. After more than ten years of passionately learning the profession, practicing the profession, traveling a lot, writing a lot, he gradually matured. From the head of a group of reporters writing about agricultural economics, building a socialist labor group, he was appointed Deputy Editor-in-Chief (in 1981). Then, with the advantage of knowledge and courage, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Ha Son Binh Newspaper (in 1984). When Ha Tay and Hoa Binh separated, he became Editor-in-Chief of Ha Tay Newspaper.
Retiring in September 2001, Dac Huu ended 37 years working for the provincial newspaper, including 17 years as Editor-in-Chief and many years being trusted by the Editorial Board of Nhan Dan Newspaper, selected to concurrently work as a resident reporter for Nhan Dan Newspaper in Ha Son Binh province. When preparing to retire, Dac Huu continued to be trusted by the Editorial Board of Nhan Dan Newspaper to be a special collaborator.
The characteristics of journalist Dac Huu's passion for his job, his sensitivity, and his caution are first and foremost reflected in his diligence in staying close to the base, searching for new news, good people, good deeds, and advanced models to promptly propagate. Also from his efforts to go deep and understand the situation at the base, he discovered negative cases and immediately wrote frank criticisms of local leaders through the columns: "Talking privately with the leaders" and "Reporters' Handbook". 200 out of 500 investigative articles criticizing and analyzing issues that people were upset about and complained about - including satirical and witty stories - were selected and published in the book "True Stories Like Made Up". The book was welcomed by public opinion for its straightforward, truthful, and constructive way of speaking. Despite the reactions, Dac Huu remained calm and determined to clarify right and wrong, protect the reputation of the newspaper, and the fighting spirit of his pen.
Journalist Dac Huu's high-quality articles have contributed to enhancing the newspaper's reputation, bringing him many national journalism awards and being nominated to be elected to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association . He is also regularly invited by the Faculty of Journalism, University of Propaganda (now Academy of Journalism and Propaganda) to disseminate his experience in making reports on advanced models and to give professional lectures to journalism students.
The person steering the Party newspaper ship during the Renovation period
During his 17 years as Editor-in-Chief, he proposed to the provincial leaders many issues with appropriate guidelines, solutions and policies, contributing to affirming the role of the newspaper as the mouthpiece and voice of the Party, government and people of the province. The newspaper regularly discovers and praises the actions and experiences of new factors, creating resonance.
For example, vivid stories about Binh Minh commune (Thanh Oai district) achieving three agricultural goals and building "three types of troops" to respond to the Southern battlefield; Hoa Xa commune (Ung Hoa) with the "Truong Son stick" movement; Dan Phuong district with the "Three responsibilities" women's movement; Ung Hoa district with the land consolidation and plot exchange work; Phu Xuyen district with the winter crop movement in low-lying fields; Son Cong cooperative with the new contract initiative...
In addition, journalist Dac Huu and his team of reporters discussed, researched, and determined to innovate the content and form, improving the quality of Ha Tay newspaper by opening more than a dozen new columns: "The beauty of everyday life", "The taste of home", "People from our hometown - Our homeland", "Old stories retold", "Artist faces", "Rural stories", "Events and comments", "Writing according to readers' requests", "Reporter's notebook", "Whispering to each other", "Learning English on Ha Tay newspaper"... The above columns have the effect of improving knowledge, providing healthy entertainment, and attracting readers from near and far.
He also proposed to the Provincial Party Committee to send newspapers as gifts to revolutionary veterans, provincial leaders, and Party members with 40 years of Party membership. From here, listening to public opinion or through letters sent in, he looked straight at the weaknesses and boldly summarized them into "10 points that Ha Tay Newspaper has not attracted readers". After that, the newspaper quickly changed direction. One of the previous differences was that the legitimate wishes and needs of the people and readers were promptly published in the newspaper. The relationship between the editorial office and readers became increasingly close and attached. In the years 1996 - 2000, the number of circulations increased rapidly, becoming one of the local Party newspapers with the largest and most widespread circulation in the country.
During the Renovation period, faced with challenges to quickly integrate into the press market, Editor-in-Chief Dac Huu spent a lot of time studying other newspapers, then he and the editorial board researched, discussed, expanded topics, increased the amount of information, added more columns, innovated the way of expression, and strived to innovate themselves. The staff and reporters closely monitored to keep up with fast-moving practical issues, changed the way of thinking, writing, taking photos, and setting up newspaper pages, different from the war and subsidy period. After a while, Ha Tay Newspaper became a typical example of improving the quality and experience of newspaper publishing.
It can be said that journalist Dac Huu has made a remarkable mark in Ha Tay newspaper. That is a testament to his creativity and determination to rise up during his 17 long years as Editor-in-Chief. That is also the momentum for writer and journalist Dac Huu to promote his dynamic, creative, and positive qualities during his more than twenty years of retirement. He spent 12 years as the Chairman of the Club of Elderly Journalists of the Silk Village; 12 years as Editor-in-Chief, in charge of the Health Protection magazine of the Association of Friends of the Resistance Against the French in the old Ha Dong province and the Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association, along with the Vietnam Elderly Cultural Center (not receiving remuneration, monthly editorial and writing allowances). Dac Huu also spent 17 years as the head of a Party cell with many retired Party members in the neighborhood, which was continuously evaluated as an excellent unit, and individual Party members Dac Huu also met the excellent standards.
Throughout his career as a journalist and in his daily life, journalist Dac Huu stands out as an example of "good people, good deeds". He was awarded the Second Class Medal of Resistance War against America for National Salvation by the President, two Labor Medals (Third Class and Second Class); the Vietnam Journalists Association awarded him many Certificates of Merit...
