Vietnam's No. 1 badminton player - Nguyen Thuy Linh won the runner-up position at the Super 300 Canadian Open 2025 after losing 0-2 (12-21, 14-21) to Japanese player - Manami Suizu (ranked 35th in the world ), in the match early this morning (July 7) Vietnam time.
Facing Suizu has never been easy. Thuy Linh has met the Japanese player twice in tournaments at the Super 100 level or higher with a record of 1 win - 1 loss, including the victory at the Vietnam Open 2 years ago that also made the home team "sweat profusely". Suizu has improved over time, getting closer and closer to being in the world's top 30.
Suizu quickly overwhelmed Thuy Linh in game 1 with a 5-point lead before the time-out of game 1. The gap was then broadened to 6 points, then 8 points, leaving the "Badminton Queen of Vietnam" helpless. Suizu won easily 21-12 to take a 1-0 lead in the final match.
In the second set, Thuy Linh opened impressively with 3 consecutive points; however, due to Suizu's excellent counter-defense, the Phu Tho native's attacking style was neutralized, replaced by unforced errors. This creates an opportunity for Suizu to take the lead and leave her 8 points behind. The final match ended quickly and Thuy Linh continued to miss out on the Super 300 championship.
This is the second time Nguyen Thuy Linh has finished second this season. More than 5 months ago, the number 1 Vietnamese tennis player won the German Open silver medal after losing to Yeo Jia Min in the final match. That was also Thuy Linh's second consecutive silver medal in Germany, thereby failing to become the first Vietnamese tennis player to win the Super 300 tournament after the legendary Nguyen Tien Minh.
