Cause of 7.3 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar affected Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

(Dan Tri) - The 7.3 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Myanmar had little impact on Vietnam. Experts said the cause of the earthquake was due to fault rupture and energy accumulation.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter , Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Geophysics, said that at about 1:20 p.m. on March 28, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred in Myanmar.

According to Mr. Anh, this earthquake occurred far away so it had little impact on our country.

Regarding the cause of the earthquake, the Director of the Institute of Geophysics said that the earthquake was caused by faults and accumulated energy.

"From the beginning of 2025 until now, Vietnam has had 73 earthquakes, mainly in Kon Tum province," said Mr. Xuan Anh.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, at around 12:56 on March 28, an earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province. Disaster risk level 0.

Some experts believe that earthquakes can be divided into two types: natural earthquakes and earthquakes caused by human activities.

Natural earthquakes are formed by the accumulation of energy generated by tectonic faults or in areas of volcanic eruptions.
