Since the beginning of August, in response to the policy of bringing sports closer to the people, the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Training and Competition Center has launched a program to guide training in more than 10 sports completely free of charge, lasting until August 29.
According to Mr. Ly Dai Nghia - director of the center: "This activity not only creates a useful playground during the summer but is also part of a long-term strategy to improve public health and build a civilized and dynamic city".
The program was developed based on the fact that the rate of people exercising regularly in the city is still quite low, at 37.5%. With the goal of improving this figure and aiming for 50% by 2030, the city's sports sector has implemented free classes in the summer for the second consecutive year.
After more than 3 weeks, implementing this activity has introduced and created conditions for people to access a variety of sports, thereby finding their favorite sport and maintaining a long-term health training habit, Mr. Nghia said.
This year's program attracted the attention of many people with more than 10 diverse subjects such as: Pickleball, Boxing, Yoga, Arnis, Sports Dance...
According to Ms. Nguyen Phuong Vy - head of the center's service department, there have been 200 new registrations with nearly 6,000 training sessions, after half a month of implementation.
The remarkable point is the rise of new, modern sports. Statistics show that about 70% of participants are teenagers and they especially favor new, trendy sports such as Pickleball or Arnis.
Mr. Son Lam (27 years old, Binh Thanh ward) is the person who registered for the boxing class. He said he registered for the class at the center because he wanted to improve his health and relieve stress after work.

Not only does the program bring physical and mental benefits to the people, it also creates opportunities for professional athletes and coaches to interact directly with the community.
The direct instruction of high-achieving athletes such as world Muay champion Huynh Ha Huu Hieu has created great attraction, while educating athletes about the role of "sports ambassadors", spreading positive values and serving society.
Despite the positive results, the organizing committee still faces a significant challenge in terms of facilities. Currently, the center can only implement 10 out of 34 sports it manages due to limited field space. This is a common difficulty, as even professional teams in Ho Chi Minh City have to rent venues for training.
The free training program will end at the end of August, but classes will continue from September for a small fee. Through these practical activities, the Ho Chi Minh City sports industry is gradually realizing the goal of "universal health", contributing to building a physically healthy and mentally civilized society.
