Ve Vung Reservoir, located in Quang Dong Commune, with a capacity of over 18 million cubic meters, is currently being affected by storm No. 5. Since August 25, the water level in the reservoir has reached level 1 alarm. Currently, the reservoir is full and water is flowing over the main spillway at a level 50 cm higher than the spillway surface.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Trang - Head of the Hunan Irrigation Cluster said: "At Ve Vung reservoir, during these days of heavy rain, there are always 4 workers on duty 24/7 to monitor, observe the water source and operate and regulate the water to ensure the safety of the reservoir".

Mr. Tran Van Hoa - Head of Construction Engineering Department, Bac Irrigation Company Limited said: Currently, the company has 23 reservoirs in the area that are full of water, of which, 17 reservoirs have reached alarm level 1. In particular, some reservoirs have not been upgraded synchronously according to new standards, many projects have degraded with the dam body being infested with termites, such as Ba Da reservoir in Hung Chau commune and Ma To reservoir in Binh Minh commune.

Faced with the reality that the reservoirs are full of water, the Northern Irrigation Company has directed its workers to be on duty 24/7 to monitor the water level, supervise the dam status and prevent people from passing through the spillway areas. At the same time, the company also regularly updates the water level situation and informs the local authorities to take timely response measures.

In particular, for the two degraded reservoirs, including Bau Da reservoir in Hung Chau commune and Ma To reservoir in Binh Minh commune, Bac Irrigation Company Limited has closely coordinated with localities to be ready to implement the "4 on-site" motto. At the same time, the management and operation of reservoirs are strictly implemented according to the correct procedures to ensure the safety of the reservoirs and dams. Plans to evacuate people and property from dangerous areas have also been proactively implemented to minimize damage when incidents occur.

At this time, Nam Irrigation Company Limited has 13/13 reservoirs full of water, of which 10 are at alert level 1. Large reservoirs such as Khe Go reservoir (5 million m³), Lach Buoi reservoir (2.1 million m³) in Van Kieu commune, Trang Den reservoir in Nam Dan commune with a capacity of 2.7 million m³... these reservoirs are all overflowing by 20-50 cm.

Mr. Bui Van Hao - Chairman and Director of Nam Irrigation Company Limited said: The unit has deployed response plans, including assigning forces to be on duty 24/7 to manage and operate reservoirs, ensuring safety. The company also maintains regular inspections of works to promptly detect and handle risks that may cause unsafety.

According to information from the Nghe An Province Irrigation Department, the province currently has 1,061 large and small reservoirs. During the recent rains, 909 reservoirs were full of water, of which 83 were managed by state-owned enterprises and 826 were managed by local authorities. Of these, 27 reached alert level 1.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Thanh - Head of Nghe An Irrigation Sub-Department said: In the face of heavy rain, water levels in reservoirs in the province have risen. The Sub-Department has directed irrigation management units and localities with reservoirs to assign forces to be on duty 24/7 to monitor water levels, dam bodies, check rain gauge systems as well as automatic spillway opening systems for large reservoirs, in order to detect early and promptly handle risks that may endanger the safety of the works.

Currently, some large reservoirs are discharging floodwaters to reduce water pressure in reservoirs. From August 29 to now, Vuc Mau reservoir in Hoang Mai ward is discharging gate number 3 with a discharge flow of 65.8 m3 /s. Previously, from August 21 to 28, Song Sao reservoir in Nghia Lam commune discharged with a water level of 60 m3 /s, ensuring a safe reservoir water level of 73.5/75.7m.

Faced with complex weather conditions and prolonged heavy rains, management units and local authorities in Nghe An need to closely coordinate and proactively deploy measures to monitor and inspect the current status of works, in order to promptly detect and handle possible incidents. This not only helps to minimize risks but also ensures the safety of irrigation works as well as protects the lives and property of people in the area.
