According to RT news agency, Anabar Diamonds - a subsidiary of Alrosa Group, has just discovered a 390.7 carat diamond while washing sand at a diamond mine in Anabar district, Sakha Republic (also known as Yakutia) in Russia on the night of September 9. The diamond was found while washing sand containing diamonds at night.

The photo released by Alrosa shows the diamond has an unusual asymmetrical shape and a golden-brown hue. This is considered a very unique combination of color and shape.

“Experts have not yet studied the diamond in detail and assessed its potential and characteristics. But there is no doubt that this is a record for our company and the Russian diamond industry,” RT news agency quoted Pavel Marinychev, General Director of Alrosa.

Mr Marinychev also affirmed that finding the diamond is a great milestone as the company's 2023 mining season comes to a close.

Previously, in 2013, Alrosa also mined a 401-carat diamond.

According to RT news agency, at the same mine in Yakutia, Anabar Diamonds also discovered another diamond measuring 37.7 carats, with a classic octahedral shape. Both diamonds have been sent for expert evaluation.

Alrosa is the world's largest diamond producer, accounting for 30% of the $80 billion annual global trade in rough gemstones.
