Raising the status of nursing
Dr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, said that the number of nurses, midwives, technicians and nursing assistants accounts for about half of the total of more than 2,200 staff members of the hospital. Currently, nurses are not only responsible for implementing medical orders but are also given greater authority and responsibility in the entire patient care process, from assessing the condition, planning care to evaluating effectiveness and adjusting when necessary. In particular, putting the concept of "nursing diagnosis" into practice has enhanced the position of nurses, affirming that this is an indispensable part of the modern health care system.
According to the Nursing Department (Da Nang Hospital), over the past 5 years, nursing training and education at the unit has achieved many outstanding achievements. In 2020, the hospital developed a special care process for Covid-19 patients, ensuring safety and effectiveness in treatment. From 2021 to present, the hospital has continuously updated basic and specialized nursing processes, compiled healtheducation and consultation documents, and improved the capacity to provide comprehensive patient care.
The hospital has developed 14 indicators to evaluate the quality of patient care online (G-forms) to optimize costs, reduce the burden of time and pressure on medical staff, thereby creating conditions for them to focus more on patient care. In particular, the program "Prevention of infection risk and medication errors in intravenous therapy - PRIME" from JCI (USA) was implemented at Da Nang Hospital and became a highlight in patient care. In addition to in-depth training in modern intravenous care techniques, the breakthrough in this program is the standardization and improvement of the drug labeling process at the on-call cabinet and electric syringe pump. This innovation not only minimizes errors but also optimizes drug management, improves treatment effectiveness and ensures maximum safety for patients. This program not only improves service quality but also helps the hospital become the first public unit in Vietnam to achieve the prestigious PRIME certification of the JCI Organization.
In addition, the hospital expands international cooperation with organizations such as the AIJINKAI Social Medical Group (Japan) to conduct training for new nurses under the program of JICA and the Ministry of Health, creating conditions for access to advanced techniques, professional exchange and nursing capacity improvement. Through these programs, the nursing team constantly improves their professional skills and ability to apply modern technology in patient care.
Respond well to patient care needs
According to the leaders of Da Nang Hospital, in recent times, the academic movement has been continuously promoted by the unit, creating motivation for the nursing team to develop their expertise. Competitions such as “Excellent Skills” and “Golden Bell” are not only useful playgrounds but also stimulate the spirit of learning and creativity, helping nurses improve their skills and improve the quality of patient care. Every year, the hospital organizes professional competitions to improve the professional quality of the nursing team.
The skills competition for nurses with over 5 years of experience is an opportunity to affirm their abilities and share experiences, while the competition for nurses with less than 5 years of experience helps to evaluate practical skills and identify areas for improvement. From there, the hospital builds a suitable training plan, ensuring that the nursing team is increasingly solid in their expertise and better meets the needs of patient care.
In addition, nursing scientific conferences are held regularly, not only creating opportunities to exchange and update new knowledge but also contributing to affirming the position of the nursing team in the health system. The hospital is also the main practice facility for students of many universities and colleges in the health sciences sector. Clinical practice programs here help students of the schools master professional knowledge, access the most advanced medical techniques and be ready to contribute to the medical career in the future.
Dr. Le Duc Nhan said that in its development strategy, Da Nang Hospital is constantly expanding and improving the quality of medical services. The establishment of the Organ Transplant Center and the Neurotrauma Center marks an important step forward in specialized treatment, meeting the increasing health care needs of the people. The hospital plans to deploy bedside care packages such as bathing, shampooing, and health care, bringing convenience and comfort to patients during treatment.
In addition, training high-quality human resources is also a top priority of the hospital, with the goal of developing a team of doctors and masters of nursing; at the same time, improving soft skills and foreign language skills, helping nurses integrate and approach international standards. "Looking to the future, Da Nang Hospital aims to expand JCI criteria, affirm its position on the international medical map and improve service quality according to global standards," Dr. Nhan affirmed.
Da Nang Hospital affirms its pioneering role in nursing training and education, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive health care. With constant innovation and the spirit of international integration, the hospital's nursing team not only brings practical value to the community but also affirms the position of the Vietnamese healthcare sector in the international arena.
