US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had his first meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Choe Tae-yul and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 15.

AFP quoted a joint statement after the trilateral meeting saying that the US, South Korea and Japan reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the "complete denuclearization" of the DPRK. The three countries also sent a "strong warning" that they would not tolerate any provocations or threats, and vowed to maintain and strengthen international sanctions against Pyongyang, according to the joint statement.

There was no immediate response from North Korea to the joint statement. Last month, Pyongyang said its nuclear program would continue “indefinitely.” On February 11, North Korea denounced a visit by a US nuclear-powered submarine to South Korea this month as a “hostile military act” and accused Washington of ignoring Pyongyang’s security concerns, according to KCNA.
