More than 40 articles in the book are selected from sources such as: Complete Party Documents, articles published in the National Salvation Newspaper, Truth Newspaper, Independence Newspaper... and memories, speeches, letters from revolutionaries, journalists, intellectuals, and the masses. Thereby, bringing readers back to the past, immersing themselves in the historical days of the nation.
The entire process, developments before, during and after the August Revolution, the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam are summarized, vividly and specifically depicted through 2 chapters: "Historical milestones", "Unforgettable years". The first chapter gathers core documents such as: The call of the Indochinese Communist Party, the Call for General Uprising, Military Order No. 1 of the Uprising Committee, the Proclamation of the establishment of the Provisional Government and especially the immortal Declaration of Independence drafted by President Ho Chi Minh and read to the entire people on September 2, 1945 at Ba Dinh Square. In the next chapter, readers will hear historical witnesses, revolutionary activists such as: Truong Chinh, Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Huy Lieu, Xuan Thuy, To Huu, Hong Ha, Nhu Phong... tell about important events, uprising battles, unforgettable emotions. That was when our army and people captured Hue citadel, broke into Ba To prison, fought the battle of Mo Cay, the Thai Nguyen general uprising or Saigon seized power and the peak was the August festival in the capital...
Reading the book, readers are brought back to the scene: “On the 19th, a sea of people were on the Opera House construction site. According to the number of people at that time, the demonstration was estimated to have numbered over 100,000 people” (page 143), “People refused to go home, everyone felt the joy inside them was too great, the intoxication of that day was too strong in their heads, they could not stay in one place, they had to go anywhere, as long as they were on the street. The streets were red with flags. Every house had a flag in front of the door” (page 148 - “August Days in Hanoi ”).
Just like that, each page of the book carries the stories and emotions of thousands of people who were burning with enthusiasm on the day of the general uprising. Then, it settles down with the difficulties and challenges that the young government had to face after September 2. Overcoming all, our people joined hands to build an era of independence and continued the path of fighting for peace and national unification.
Reading “Imprints of the August Revolution of 1945” not only helps us understand the reasons for the victory and the historical significance of this event, but also reminds today’s generations of the noble sacrifices of our ancestors and the responsibility to continue in the journey of building and defending the Fatherland.
