MU chooses Gyokeres' replacement

Manchester United have moved quickly to sign Hugo Ekitike after top target Viktor Gyokeres appeared to be heading to Arsenal.

Swedish striker Gyokeres had an impressive season with Sporting Lisbon, scoring 52 goals in all competitions. He was expected to reunite with coach Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

However, according to Portuguese media, Gyokeres now wants to join Arsenal, a team that has a Champions League place and is building an attractive sports project under Mikel Arteta.

Manchester United immediately turned to Hugo Ekitike, a 22-year-old striker from Eintracht Frankfurt. According to Bild (Germany), Man Utd is the only team to date that has officially contacted the Bundesliga club to discuss Ekitike.

Despite being linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, only the Red Devils are currently serious about pursuing the young French star.

A significant advantage for Man Utd in this deal is the close relationship between Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche and Man United's new head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell. In addition, Ekitike is said to be "open" to a move to Old Trafford, especially when the team is strongly rebuilt under coach Amorim.

Ekitike has just had a successful season at Frankfurt, helping the team finish third in the Bundesliga, despite losing star Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in January. With his versatile playing style, good finishing ability and high development potential, Ekitike is considered a suitable choice for Amorim's style of play.

However, Frankfurt value the French striker at up to 85 million pounds, a fairly high fee in the context that Man Utd just spent 62.5 million pounds to recruit Matheus Cunha and are also pursuing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, who is also targeted by Tottenham.

While the fee may be a barrier, United’s proactive and quick approach to Ekitike shows they do not want to repeat the mistakes of recent transfer windows.
