The People's Committee of Thanh Binh Commune, Da Nang City has just held a ceremony to receive the Certificate of provincial and municipal relic ranking for the Bat Cave landscape. This event not only marks a turning point in conservation work, but also opens up the opportunity to turn a "green gem" hidden in the middle of the forest into an eco- tourism destination.
"Memory Station" in the midland mountains
Bat Cave is located in village 3, Tien An commune, Tien Phuoc district, old Quang Nam province, now Thanh Binh commune. This is an interesting address for those who love to explore and enjoy the wild and mysterious beauty.
Each season has its own beauty, the road leading to this scenic spot is poetic in itself because of its winding beauty between many lush fruit gardens, beside small terraced fields and undulating hills.
Bat Cave is hidden on a small hill, covered with vines outside, as if sealing old stories from millions of years ago.
Not as majestic and splendid as Son Doong Cave or Phong Nha Cave..., Bat Cave is like a low note in the symphony of nature in the midlands. The streams that have flowed through here for millions of years, along with the natural weathering process, have created its diverse beauty. Every step here is a step into the geological memory of millennia.
Bat Cave consists of two branches: the upper cave - Thien Cave - and the lower cave - Nang Tien Cave - with two small winding paths leading in. Nang Tien Cave has a stone arch over 10m high, gradually widening as you go inside. The further inside, the cooler the temperature is due to many underground water streams seeping into the cave walls or seeping out into small cracks.
Walking lightly in the cave, one could hear the flapping of insects' wings and the rustling of leaves. Occasionally, a few bats would flutter their wings and then suddenly fly away in surprise.
The hand of nature is miraculous, the giant rocks of various shapes and sizes are stacked and stacked without any order. The faces of the rocks are also very diverse with countless different types of stone grain.
The vines hang naturally from the cave entrance all the way inside. The sunlight falls in streams and sparkling beads at the cave entrance, giving the soft moss carpet and the cliffs reflecting time a mysterious and magical look.
Next to Nang Tien Cave is Thien Cave. This is the upper cave but the cave mouth is exposed at the foot of the mountain below. Thien Cave stands out with cliffs about 5-7m high and gradually widens as you go inside.
There are also very strange cliffs, arches, rocks, and rocky outcrops. Each rock, each layer of sediment seems to preserve a secret story from millions of years ago about the ancient world that still echoes in the breath of the mountains and forests.
Between the rocks and blocks are vines and tree roots. In this cave, there are many small caves connecting to each other, making the space more open.
Back to the wild
As a local, having spent her entire life in the ancient land of Tien An, Ms. Tran Thi Lieu (68 years old) has many deep memories of Bat Cave. According to her, this place used to be a sacred space, associated with the forest worship rituals of the community.
When she was young, she and the other children in the village often went to the cave to play and catch fish in the nearby stream, but at that time no one thought that Bat Cave was a treasure. It was only recently, when many people started to pay attention and come to visit, that she felt more clearly the special value of the cave in her hometown.
Bat Cave is not noisy and inviting. It is like a quiet memory station in the middle of the mountains and hills, where people find traces of life from the beginning of time. In the dim light of the stone dome, the sound of bats flying touches the space like ancient beats, awakening in us a question: how will people move forward when the memory of the land is still intact in this place? Perhaps, the most beautiful way to answer is to keep that memory station alive, so that the whispers of nature can still echo into the future.
The ranking of the monument is just the starting point; what is more important is to keep this place as pristine and mysterious as ever. So that every step visitors take here is not only a journey of discovery and enjoyment of the natural beauty, but also a return: a return to pristine nature, to the memory of the rocks, and to the very aspiration to preserve a green future for the homeland.
