According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on June 16, the North continued to record showers and thunderstorms, with heavy to very heavy rain in many places, posing a high risk of flash floods, landslides and localized flooding in mountainous and midland provinces.

It is forecasted that during the day and night of June 16, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will continue to have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 20 - 50 mm, some places over 80 mm. There is a high risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. Prolonged heavy rain also increases the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.

Detailed disaster warnings were also issued for many localities. In Lai Chau and Yen Bai, from 1-3 am on June 16, the area had moderate rain, with some places experiencing heavy rain such as Phu Nam Sap (63.6 mm), Phuc Than (44.2 mm) in Lai Chau; Khao Mang (34 mm) in Yen Bai. Soil moisture in some areas reached saturation levels of over 80%.

In the next 6 hours, the warning of flash floods and landslides in the districts of Tan Uyen, Than Uyen, Muong Te, Nam Nhun (Lai Chau) and Mu Cang Chai, Tram Tau ( Yen Bai ) has been raised to level 1, the lowest warning level on the natural disaster warning scale but still requires special attention.

In Dien Bien , Son La and Lao Cai provinces, from the night of June 15 to the early morning of June 16, heavy rainfall was also recorded, of which Nam Chay (Lao Cai) reached 77 mm, Si Pa Phin (Dien Bien) 39 mm, Muoi Noi 40.8 mm (Son La). The risk of flash floods and landslides is warned in the districts: Muong Ang, Nam Po, Tua Chua (Dien Bien); Mai Son, Muong La, Song Ma (Son La); Bat Xat, Bac Ha, Sa Pa town (Lao Cai).

Faced with complicated weather developments, local authorities and functional forces are advised to increase inspections of landslide-prone areas, proactively evacuate people in dangerous areas, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
