The 2025 Mazda 6e electric sedan will arrive in European dealerships this summer, but its price tag is drawing attention in a not-so-good way.

After about half a year of its launch in Europe, the all-new Mazda 6e electric sedan has officially arrived in showrooms across the region. Mazda is known for its beautifully designed cars in the popular segment and the 6e may be the company’s most impressive sedan ever. In Europe, the 2025 Mazda 6e will only be sold as a pure electric sedan. There will be no range-extended version like in China, at least for now.
In the German market, the standard Takumi version of the car starts at 44,900 Euros (about 49,000 USD). The Takumi Plus version with equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, wood interior, and Nappa leather seats costs 46,900 Euros (about 51,200 USD). The Mazda 6e's price immediately attracted attention because it is twice as high as the car in the Chinese market. Called Mazda EZ-6 in China, this model has a very affordable price in the billion-people market, ranging from 159,800 - 181,800 Yuan (about 20,700 - 23,600 Euro or 22,500 - 25,500 USD), depending on the version. This stark difference shows that the Mazda EZ-6 is priced extremely competitively in the Chinese market, while European buyers have to pay more for a model that is essentially identical. The Mazda 6e even has a higher starting price than its rival, the Tesla Model 3. In Germany, the Tesla model is sold for only 39,990 - 58,490 Euros (about 43,600 - 63,800 USD).
The 6e is not a car developed by Mazda itself. Underneath the eye-catching exterior is a chassis platform shared with Chinese cars manufactured by partner Changan. Not only does the exterior look impressive, the Mazda 6e also has a carefully crafted interior. Although a bit simple for some, the car is still equipped with a beautifully designed steering wheel, a prominent center console that creates a high-end feel, a large infotainment screen, a digital clock, wireless charging, interior ambient lighting, and soft Alcantara-mixed leather seats. The Mazda 6e in the European market is currently available in two main configurations. The standard version is equipped with a 68.8 kWh battery, providing a maximum travel distance of 479 km. The car uses a rear-mounted electric motor, producing a maximum capacity of 255 horsepower and a maximum torque of 320 Nm.
The car's range is quite adequate for daily commuting, unless you travel far often. In addition, Mazda also offers a Long Range version with an 80 kWh battery, increasing the range to 552 km. Typically, electric cars with larger batteries will have more powerful electric motors, but the Mazda 6e does the opposite. The Long Range version is slightly less powerful, with a 242 horsepower and 320 Nm electric motor. Both versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 8 seconds and have a top speed of 175 km/h. Charging speed is a big concern for EV users. The 68.8 kWh version supports DC fast charging with a maximum charging capacity of 200 kW, allowing for a charge from 10%–80% in just 22 minutes. Strangely, the Long Range version charges much slower, with a charging capacity limited to 95 kW, requiring about 45 minutes to charge from 10%–80%.
