Leboeuf: 'It feels like Arsenal just bought Hojlund'

French legend Frank Leboeuf said Viktor Gyokeres had a worrying debut as Arsenal beat MU 1-0 in the opening round of the Premier League on August 17.

Gyokeres is considered MU's "flop" Hojlund after a forgettable debut.

Speaking to ESPN , Leboeuf said Gyokeres' lacklustre displays were reminiscent of Rasmus Hojlund. The £72m signing from United scored just four Premier League goals last season and is on his way out of Old Trafford.

"I feel like Arsenal just signed Hojlund. He is completely lost, unable to find a common voice with his teammates. Hopefully Gyokeres will not follow in that footsteps," Leboeuf affirmed.

Despite the criticism, coach Mikel Arteta still defended his player. He affirmed that Gyokeres did a good job of pressing, following the rhythm of the game and only lacked clear-cut chances to finish. "Playing at Old Trafford, getting a win in his first time playing for Arsenal is a positive start," Arteta emphasized.

The Swedish striker was largely absent from Arsenal's 1-0 win at Old Trafford, having just 21 touches and failing to even manage a shot before being replaced in the 60th minute by Kai Havertz.

The opening win over MU has given Arsenal great confidence in their journey to conquer the championship. But Gyokeres personally needs to do better. He still has many opportunities to prove his worth, starting with the match against Leeds United this weekend.
