Since the beginning of the year, durian prices have been falling due to export difficulties. However, since June, the situation has improved as Vietnam tightened control regulations and increased inspections. As a result, durian prices have started to rise again over the past week.

A survey at warehouses showed that the price of Monthong durian at the warehouse has also increased from 70,000 VND to 80,000-90,000 VND per kilogram. For type B (2.5 boxes), the price is at 70,000-75,000 VND, 20% higher than last month and slightly higher than the same period last year. The Ri 6 variety alone has not changed, remaining at 40,000-42,000 VND per kilogram (type A), type B 30,000-35,000 VND and type C 25,000-28,000 VND.

In the West, Mr. Manh Khuong, a trader in Can Tho , said that the output is very low. Instead of collecting for export, this week he mainly sells to the domestic market. This shows that the supply from the Mekong Delta region has almost run out after the end of the main crop.

In that context, the main source of goods has shifted to the Central Highlands and the Southeast. Mr. Thanh, a trader in Dak Lak, said that the locality has just entered the beginning of the season, so the harvest is still limited and the quality of the fruit is not consistent. "I can only collect about 1-2 tons per day, while export demand has increased again, so the price has been pushed up," he said.

In Dong Nai , Mr. Hieu, the owner of a large purchasing warehouse, said he is collecting goods to export to Taiwan and China, with the highest price of type A reaching up to 95,000 VND per kg. However, the biggest difficulty now is not only the low output, but also the difficulty in collecting enough standard quantity to meet export contracts, causing logistics and storage costs to increase.

According to traders, it will be another half month, when Dak Lak enters its peak season, before prices can stabilize, depending on market demand.

From a business perspective, Mr. Doan Van Ven - General Director of Anh Thu Dak Lak Company Limited, said that the company has resumed exporting to China after more than half a year of difficulties. He commented that customs clearance and quarantine procedures have become faster and more convenient. Previously, in January, his company was forced to turn back 10 containers of durian with a total weight of 170 tons because it could not clear customs at the border gate due to new regulations.

Statistics show that in the first three months of the year, the monthly export turnover of durian was less than 100 million USD. In April, it increased to over 100 million USD, and in May, it reached 204 million USD. In the first 5 months, the total export turnover of durian was only 387 million USD, down nearly 58% compared to the same period last year. In June, the turnover increased sharply, reaching over 300 million USD, and in July alone, it was estimated to reach 350-400 million USD. Thus, in the first 7 months of the year, durian export turnover is estimated to exceed 1 billion USD.

According to the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), durian exports have improved significantly, especially frozen products. From now until the end of the year, export activities will peak when the Central Highlands enters the main crop season. This agency is coordinating with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) to support the promotion.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just issued Decision 3015 on "Food safety control process for fresh durian for export". This is the first time a fruit has its own control mechanism, from cultivation to export.
