According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, the import-export value through Lao Cai border gates in the first 6 months of 2025 is estimated at 1,208 million USD, equal to 13.42% of the annual plan and down 24% compared to the same period in 2024.

The main reason is that Chinese authorities require export enterprises to apply new regulations and tighten plant quarantine for fruit shipments, causing the export volume of durian to decrease sharply. This is a key product that accounts for a high proportion of the total export value through border gates in the province.

At Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II, customs clearance of goods is always ensured smoothly, even during holidays and Tet, and there is no congestion of vehicles carrying import and export goods. The main export items are peeled wood, dragon fruit, watermelon, jackfruit, mangosteen, banana, durian, etc.; the main import items are fertilizer, vegetables, tubers, fruits of all kinds, coke, chemicals, confectionery, machinery and equipment, etc.

At the International Railway Station Border Gate, customs clearance activities are maintained for 2-4 departure and arrival trains per day. Goods cleared at the border gate are mainly transit sulfur and iron ore, re-export and import of coke.
The provincial state management agencies have strengthened foreign affairs with relevant Chinese agencies to remove difficulties for businesses, especially in the export of durian.
