To create green and regulate the ecological environment, officers and soldiers of the unit actively responded to the "Greening Truong Sa" Program, planting many trees to cover the island to prevent erosion, storms, block salt winds, and improve the soil.
Officers and soldiers set out to beautify the environment. |
Recently, the tree planting movement has been promoted throughout the unit. The tree varieties grown by the soldiers on the island include: Casuarina, coconut, tra, and banyan - tree varieties that adapt to harsh soil and climate conditions. In sunny, windy conditions and with little fresh water, taking care of trees on the island is more difficult than on the mainland.
Corporal Phan Quoc Viet, radar operator, Radar Platoon, Radar Station 44 shared: “Responding to the program “Greening Truong Sa”, we participated in planting seedlings, carefully covering them to avoid the impact of storms. When the seedlings grew well, we planted trees. Despite the barren sandy soil, harsh weather, and many storms, the trees on the island still grow strongly.”
Youth of the unit responded to "Green Sunday" to join hands to protect the environment. |
Promoting the internal strength of the place, the officers and soldiers of Radar Station 44 focused on planning the campus and environmental landscape of the unit. The system of barracks and production areas was consolidated. The soldiers cast their own flower pots, expanded their production gardens, and planted many kinds of green vegetables to improve their lives. Along with that, the system of bulletin boards and propaganda slogans was upgraded and renewed, ensuring regularity and uniformity.
Captain Nguyen Quang Dao, Political Commissar of Radar Station 44, said: “Through the program “Greening Truong Sa”, thousands of seedlings were transferred from the mainland to the island. The trees planted are mainly tra, banyan, and casuarina. In places where tall trees cannot be planted, sea spinach is planted to create green color”. Up to now, the unit’s campus in particular and the entire island in general have been covered with cool green trees. Thanks to the efforts of the soldiers, many types of trees have grown green in the sea breeze.
On the island front line of the Fatherland, facing the difficulties and harsh weather, but with a high spirit of determination, the officers and soldiers of Radar Station 44 have nurtured green shoots, planted and cared for the trees to grow. In the middle of the ocean, the green color of the trees grows strongly in the sun and wind, bearing the image of the mainland, warm with the love of the homeland. The spacious campus, shady trees create a favorable environment for soldiers to live, study and work, thereby increasing their determination to firmly protect the sacred sky, sea and islands of the Fatherland.
