Joy from the roof of love

The days of gratitude in July are coming, the house of Mr. Bui The Tuc in Phuoc Hung village (Loc Thuy commune - now Chan May commune - Lang Co) has just been renovated, becoming more cozy and tidy. As a relative of a meritorious person, Mr. Tuc emotionally shared: "Thanks to the State's support of 40 million VND, and the addition of children and grandchildren, the family has repaired the roof, replaced the rafters, purlins... Now there is no need to worry about leaks in the rain or shine, the whole family can live in peace".

In Thuy Yen Thon village, Chan May commune - Lang Co, Mrs. Le Thi Dac, over 70 years old, expressed her joy when her house, which was in a state of disrepair with broken tile roof and rotten beams, was repaired. "I received 40 million VND in support, and my children and grandchildren contributed 60 million VND. After Tet, we started repairing it, and it was completed by the end of April, in time to celebrate the Liberation Day of the South," Mrs. Dac happily said.

Not only in the suburbs, in the inner city of Hue , many families of meritorious people and their relatives living in deep alleys and small lanes have been able to renovate their narrow and dilapidated houses thanks to the State's "Housing Support Program for Meritorious People". Mr. Ho Trong Thien in Dong Ba ward (old), now Phu Xuan ward, shared that he is a seriously wounded and sick soldier with a difficult family situation, and that if he "had to do it himself", he would never know when it would come true. Thanks to the State's support of 40 million VND to renovate their house, Mr. Thien and his wife now feel more secure.

The housing support program for people with revolutionary contributions in Hue city has been implemented systematically, synchronously and resolutely from policy to action. In particular, the program is specified by Decision No. 400 dated February 17, 2025 and adjusted by Decision No. 2023 dated June 30, 2025 of the City People's Committee to ensure that it closely follows actual needs and complies with the provisions of Decree 131/2021/ND-CP dated December 30, 2021 of the Government detailing and implementing measures for the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Revolutionary Contributions.

Through screening, 503 households of meritorious people have been approved for housing support. Of these, 210 houses were newly built and 293 were repaired, with a total cost of more than 21.3 billion VND. Valuably, nearly 21 billion VND was mobilized from families, relatives, clans and the community, demonstrating the spirit of "self-reliance" of the people and the tradition of mutual love and gratitude.

Many localities have made efforts to mobilize more funds so that families of meritorious people can complete their houses more spacious and beautiful than expected. For example, in Chan May - Lang Co commune, each household received support of 30 million VND from the budget and was mobilized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune to provide an additional 10 million VND, helping people to renovate and repair their houses.

Gratitude in action

The spread of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, including housing support for people with meritorious services in the city, has helped 6,778 poor, near-poor, and policy-supported households eliminate temporary houses in the period of 2021 - 2024, with a total budget of over 350 billion VND. In 2025 alone, Hue city aims to complete 1,170 houses, of which nearly 50% are for people with meritorious services. This is a testament to the special attention of Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and all the people of the city for people with meritorious services and their relatives to have solid houses of gratitude.

The policy of "leaving no one behind" has been strictly implemented: from the stage of checking, democratic evaluation at the grassroots level, public posting, collecting community opinions to supporting the right people, the right needs. The responsible participation of all levels of government, supervision of the Fatherland Front and mass organizations, and especially the contribution from the community have created "homes of love".

Mr. Bui Xuan Hung, who has been the village Party Secretary in Loc Thuy commune (formerly) for decades, confirmed that the local government and people are very concerned about those who have contributed and their relatives. "When they know whose house is supported, people gather together to help with the work, some people contribute money and construction materials. Thanks to that, the new houses are completed early, sometimes even more beautiful than originally planned," said Mr. Hung.

Towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, more than 500 houses of gratitude in Hue were newly built and repaired, not only as a place for people with meritorious services to live but also as a beautiful symbol of gratitude, solidarity and unity between the State and the People. The completion of 503 houses for people with meritorious services before mid-July is a remarkable achievement, opening a new, more practical and humane journey of gratitude.
