Successful start-up from more than 3 sao of melon

Agriculture has always been considered one of the traditional production and business sectors. However, with the advancement of technology and innovation in management, agriculture has become an opportunity to get rich for many young people.

In recent years, high-tech melon growing has become a promising startup model, bringing development opportunities to many young people, including 9X guy Mai Duc Tuan (in Long Binh 11 village, Binh Tan commune, Dong Nai province).

After many years of researching information to learn how to grow high-quality agricultural crops that are suitable for his family's economic conditions, and realizing that the local soil and climate are suitable, Mr. Mai Duc Tuan decided to start a business with a high-tech melon growing model.

Initially, for testing, the 9X guy built a greenhouse of more than 300m2 with more than 6,000 melon seedlings. After more than 2 months of planting, thanks to good care and proper techniques, the first melon crop brought in a good income... To expand the area, in 2024, Mr. Tuan boldly borrowed capital from the Startup Fund of the former Binh Phuoc Provincial Youth Union (now Dong Nai Provincial Youth Union) 300 million VND and 500 million VND from his family, investing in a 3,300m2 greenhouse to grow melons.

The 9X guy shared: “Agricultural production is greatly affected by climate, insects, and diseases when plants are in direct contact with the natural environment. Therefore, growing melons in greenhouses using high technology helps to “isolate” them from disease-causing insects and cope with erratic weather changes. To make the melon garden highly effective, I apply a drip irrigation system combined with automatic fertilization, which helps reduce labor costs, especially managing fertilizer residue for plants…”.

Mr. Tuan added: Although the initial investment capital for the high-tech melon growing model is quite high, in return, the melons have good productivity and quality, and can be sold at a good price, so the capital recovery is quick. After nearly 3 years of investment in production, his melon garden has always achieved high quality, is favored by consumers in and outside the province, thereby helping his family earn 400 million VND/year. He is currently cooperating with 3-4 melon producing households to support the consumption of output products.

“In the coming time, I will continue to cooperate with melon growers to build my own brand. I hope the Commune Youth Union will pay attention and help to expand the production scale of melon products,” said Mr. Tuan.

After Tuan's melon model achieved high efficiency, a number of union members and young people in the area came to visit and learn from his experience. During the time before and after the organization of the 2-level local government came into operation, the Executive Committee of the Commune Youth Union had many ideas so that young people in the commune could access local and provincial capital sources to develop the economy and strive to become rich legitimately.”

With passion and determination, Mr. Mai Duc Tuan's high-tech melon growing model has achieved impressive results, becoming a model in clean agricultural production in Binh Tan commune.
