Safety instructions during heavy rain, flooding, flash floods and landslides

Previously, the meteorological agency also issued warnings of the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many communes/wards. In particular, last night and this morning (August 26), the midlands and the Northern Delta, Son La, Lao Cai and from Thanh Hoa to Northern Quang Tri had moderate to heavy rain; in particular, the Phu Tho, Hanoi and from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An areas had heavy to very heavy rain.

It is forecasted that from August 26 to the morning of August 27, the midlands and deltas of the North, Son La, Lao Cai and Thanh Hoa will have widespread rain of 60-120mm, locally over 250mm in some places.

On August 26, the area from Nghe An to Ha Tinh will have widespread rain of 20-50mm, locally over 100mm. There is a high risk of floods, inundation, flash floods and landslides in the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh , Lang Son, Quang Ninh and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri.

To proactively respond and minimize damage caused by heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, and landslides, people need to pay attention to the following recommendations:

Regularly monitor forecasts, warnings and developments of heavy rain, flooding, flash floods and landslides to proactively prevent and avoid them; especially heavy rain occurring at night.

Proactively evacuate from areas at risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides; Pay special attention to unusual signs of flash floods and landslides such as: explosions, strange noises, shaking and cracking of the ground, and cloudy stream water to promptly evacuate the area to ensure safety of life.

Absolutely do not go through underground tunnels, spillways, bridges, culverts, roads or areas that are deeply flooded, have fast-flowing water, or roads at risk of flash floods or landslides (signs of water seeping out, rocks and soil falling from the slope onto the road...); do not fish, collect firewood on the river, or swim across streams during heavy rain or floods.

Proactively stockpile and preserve food, drinking water, medicine, and necessary supplies to prevent flooding and isolation for many days.

Actively protect aquaculture areas, livestock and poultry farming, and agricultural production.

Raise assets to avoid flooding, keep important documents in a safe place, move vehicles to higher ground; proactively cut off power and close gas valves before water rises.

Proactively clear drainage systems near your home and residential area; notify authorities when there are problems with clogged drainage systems or deep flooding; do not park in areas at risk of flooding; be on guard against flooding in apartment basements.
