HSB celebrates 30 years of establishment, pioneering mark and journey of creating sustainable value

This morning, July 13, in Hanoi, the School of Business and Management (HSB), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) solemnly held the 30th Anniversary Ceremony (1995-2025) and received the Second Class Labor Medal awarded by the President, recognizing its contributions to the education and research career with many pioneering marks.

Established in 1995 under the initiative of fundamental innovation in highereducation of Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and granted special autonomy by the late Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Dao, HSB is the first autonomous public university model in Vietnam, developed on four pillars: Public, Autonomous, Not for profit, Public-private partnership.

After 30 years of development, HSB has affirmed its position as a leading prestigious training institution, pioneering in many new fields such as non-traditional security management and integrated business administration, combining management, technology and security. The establishment of the Institute of Non-traditional Security (INS) under HSB is a testament to its unique academic orientation and strong practical imprint.

The Institute for Non-Traditional Security (INS) and HSB have organized training for more than 5,000 senior planning officials, conducted research and transferred the results of dozens of scientific topics to localities, and launched the Journal of “Governance, Security and Technology”, an important milestone in research activities.

Not only creating an academic foundation, HSB also develops a training and startup ecosystem closely linked to practice, with units such as the Institute of Non-traditional Security (INS), the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI), the Institute of Training & Management Consulting (ITM) and many specialized departments. From a budget of “0 VND”, HSB has trained more than 15,000 students and trainees, many of whom currently hold leadership positions in state agencies and large enterprises at home and abroad.

HSB's training programs are taught in English, internationally accredited by ACQUIN (Germany) and HSB is currently an official member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is a solid foundation for regional and global expansion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi, Principal of HSB expressed his deep gratitude to generations of leaders, lecturers, students and partners. He affirmed: “HSB today is the crystallization of the intelligence, passion and sharing of many generations. We will continue to innovate and pioneer for an education for the community and sustainable development”.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training emphasized: “More than ever, large, key universities such as Hanoi National University (including member universities; schools under Hanoi National University such as the School of Business and Administration) need to affirm their pioneering role, not only leading in innovation, but also having the responsibility to lead the system; not only developing themselves, but also spreading and creating influence for the whole society.”

On this occasion, the Prime Minister also presented Certificates of Merit to three outstanding individuals including Lieutenant General, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Xuan Yem; Associate Professor, Doctor Hoang Dinh Phi; and Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Thang for their outstanding achievements in training and scientific research.

The 30th anniversary of HSB is an opportunity to look back on the journey of building and affirming its unique identity, and is also a milestone to open a new chapter, making HSB the leading interdisciplinary training and research center in the region, aiming for the Top 100 in Asia by 2035 and the Top 500 in the world by 2045.
