Honda Vietnam has just announced to customers that in November 2024, the car company will conduct a large-scale recall of many models to correct and fix errors.

Of these, 5,910 CR-Vs are in the G, L 2WD and L AWD versions; 1,194 CR-V e:HEV RS vehicles were produced between October 17, 2023 and August 28, 2024. Thus, these vehicles are all the latest generation CR-Vs, launched in Vietnam at the end of October 2023, while older vehicles are not affected.

The remaining recalled vehicles include 31 Honda Civic Type R and 3,870 Civics, manufactured from November 3, 2021 to June 20, 2024.

The total number of recalled vehicles this time is more than 11,000 units approved by the Vietnam Register.

This recall campaign is being carried out free of charge at all authorized Honda dealers nationwide. According to information from the company, the time to fix the error for each vehicle will take about 3.9 hours for Civic and Civic Type R models, while CR-V models will only need half an hour to repair.

Honda said that on the recalled vehicles, the amount of grease in the steering rack worm gear may decrease over time, leading to increased friction and causing sticking.

This causes the steering wheel to make unusual noises and may vibrate when steering. This phenomenon not only affects the driving experience but also poses a potential safety risk when the driver cannot control the vehicle accurately.

Although there have been no recorded accidents or safety incidents due to the steering rack defect, Honda has decided to recall thousands of vehicles to ensure user safety.

According to experts in the automotive industry, the steering rack plays a vital role in the control system. If this part malfunctions, driving can become difficult and dangerous, especially when the vehicle is moving at high speeds or in emergency situations.

This is not the first time Honda has faced problems with its steering system. In the past, some older Honda Civics in Vietnam also encountered similar problems. However, unlike previous small recalls, this time Honda Vietnam is conducting a large-scale campaign.

Not only in Vietnam, Honda has launched similar recalls in international markets such as the US, where the company had to recall nearly 1.7 million vehicles and Malaysia with about 36,000 vehicles.
