Overview of the Workshop |
The Central Highlands in general and Dak Lak province in particular are regions with great potential for agricultural development, especially with key industrial crops such as coffee, pepper, rubber and precious medicinal herbs. These industries play an important role in the export turnover and economic growth of the locality. However, the region is also facing many challenges such as harsh climate, unsynchronized irrigation and mechanization infrastructure, and limited qualifications of the rural labor force. Meanwhile, domestic and international markets increasingly demand high quality, safety standards and sustainability of products.
Faced with increasing market demands and the trend of deep international integration, especially when Vietnam participates in new generation free trade agreements such as CPTPP, EVFTA, etc., innovation is identified as a core factor to improve productivity, quality and competitiveness of agricultural products. This is also the key for local agriculture to develop in a modern, green and sustainable direction.
Dr. Tran Ngoc Thanh - Acting Director of the Central Highlands Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development - Dong A University delivered the opening speech at the Workshop. |
At the workshop, many papers were presented to analyze the current situation and propose specific solutions to promote innovation. Representatives of Dong A University - Dak Lak Branch presented research on the current situation and approaches to innovation in local agricultural enterprises and cooperatives, emphasizing the role of technology, knowledge management and human resource training. The Institute for European and American Studies analyzed the main barriers to innovation in agricultural cooperatives and proposed necessary policy implications to remove those barriers.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province reported on current support policies and proposed strengthening the linkage of the “four houses” (state – scientists – enterprises – farmers) to improve the efficiency of innovation in agricultural production. The Department of Science and Technology of the province also shared about the mechanism to encourage enterprises to invest in research and application of new technologies as well as innovation funding programs being implemented locally.
The workshop was also an opportunity to announce the results of practical surveys, share experiences from typical models and discuss appropriate initiatives to enhance innovation capacity at the grassroots level. Many proposals were made, such as: improving innovation management capacity in enterprises, training highly skilled human resources, expanding cooperation with international institutes, schools and organizations, developing an innovation ecosystem suitable to the specific conditions of Dak Lak.
At the end of the workshop, delegates agreed that innovation is not only an inevitable trend, but also a prerequisite for Dak Lak agriculture to develop effectively and sustainably in the coming period. The results and recommendations from the workshop will continue to be specified in the province's high-tech agricultural development policies, contributing to making Dak Lak a leading center of agricultural innovation in the Central Highlands region.
