Workshop "Solutions to improve capacity and effectiveness of poverty reduction work, contributing to the implementation of sustainable poverty reduction goals in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous provinces"

On August 15, in Trung Tam ward, the Institute for Cooperative Economic Development (Vietnam Cooperative Alliance) in collaboration with Lao Cai Province Cooperative Alliance organized a scientific workshop on "Solutions to improve capacity and effectiveness of poverty reduction work, contributing to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous provinces".

Attending the workshop were representatives of leaders and staff of the Institute for Cooperative Economic Development, the Cooperative Union of Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien provinces and a number of communes in Lao Cai province.

At the workshop, there were 6 presentations, focusing on sharing experiences, results and proposing solutions for sustainable poverty reduction, such as: Current situation of poverty reduction in the Northern Midlands and Mountains provinces; Experience in supporting sustainable poverty reduction in Lao Cai province; The role of collective economy and cooperatives in supporting livelihoods, creating jobs, and increasing income for people; Poverty reduction models and initiatives associated with cooperative economic development, application of science and technology, digital transformation; Solutions to enhance capacity for managers, cooperative members and communities.

In addition, delegates also proposed specific solutions, programs and projects to improve capacity and effectiveness of poverty reduction work.

The results of the Workshop will be an important basis for the Institute for Cooperative Economic Development and the Cooperative Alliance of localities to consider, advise, propose policies, and implement more practical and effective programs and projects, contributing to the successful implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.

Lao Cai province currently has 1,419 cooperatives with 41,695 members; total charter capital of over VND2,748 billion. In recent times, the collective economic sector and cooperatives of the province have played an active role in implementing poverty reduction programs, especially in remote, isolated areas and ethnic minority areas.

Many effective cooperative models have created stable livelihoods for members and workers, contributing to improving living standards and sustainable poverty reduction.
