On June 3, news from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Dinh province said that, regarding the information reported by SGGP Newspaper on "Garbage flooding the estuary and fishing port in Binh Dinh", published on May 17, 2023, implementing the direction of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, the People's Committee of Cat Khanh commune has launched a campaign to clean up the De Gi estuary area.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, Vice Chairman of Cat Khanh Commune People's Committee, in recent days, the locality has mobilized 1 excavator, 1 small truck and about 100 people to collect garbage, waste, and handle "black spots" of garbage gathering that SGGP Newspaper reported from De Gi fishing port, the area near Cat Khanh Border Guard Station extending to the breakwater of 2 villages An Quang Dong, An Quang Tay (Cat Khanh commune)...
In addition, Cat Khanh commune has also signed a contract with a local waste collection company to increase the frequency of garbage collection to 4 times/week. The commune has also drafted a budget to sign a contract to dredge and level large garbage collection points along the estuary, and the area of squid processing facilities in the two villages of An Quang Dong and An Quang Tay, etc.

According to records, the "black spots" of garbage piled up in the De Gi fishing port area (opposite Cat Khanh Border Guard Station) extending to the breakwater in the two villages of An Quang Dong and An Quang Tay (SGGP Newspaper previously reported) have all been cleaned up by local forces, returning a clean and beautiful landscape to the estuary.

There are still many difficulties
Sharing the story of waste at De Gi estuary, Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu raised the difficulty that the amount of domestic waste drifting on the estuary, water surface and De Gi lagoon is very large and the source of waste comes from many places. Therefore, the Vice Chairman of Cat Khanh Commune People's Committee said that it is necessary to have the cooperation of all localities along the lagoon and estuary to fundamentally solve the problem of marine waste.

In addition, according to Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, the commune's limited resources do not have enough funds to collect waste on the water surface as well as to communicate, mobilize, purchase equipment and products to treat and collect waste, so it is very difficult.
“Recently, the press has reported that this is a common reality for the entire De Gi estuary, not just Cat Khanh commune. Therefore, if only Cat Khanh commune takes action, it will be very difficult to completely resolve the common waste problem. Therefore, we really hope that the province and district will pay attention to allocating funding so that the locality has a fund to collect waste at the estuary, because at present, everyone is working on a voluntary basis and the commune does not have any funding,” Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu shared.
On the same day, speaking to SGGP Newspaper reporters, a representative of the Department of Environmental Protection (Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Dinh Province) said that they have not yet received a report on the results of coastal waste treatment from the Quy Nhon City People's Committee. "We will compile the results of the information processing reported by the localities to soon report to the Provincial People's Committee. Through that, we will also have general information to respond to the press," the representative added.

Binh Dinh province directed very early
