Coach Vu Hong Viet: 'Winning the championship is difficult, defending the championship is even more difficult'

“There were times when the team only had one squad left to compete, but the players tried their best. The solidarity and determination of all members were the factors that helped us overcome difficulties. Winning the championship was difficult, retaining the championship was even more difficult. But we were not afraid of challenges. When the whole team is working towards the same goal, all limits can be overcome," coach Vu Hong Viet shared after the 2-0 victory over Quang Nam on June 15.

This victory not only helped Nam Dinh officially crowned the V.League 2024/25, but also marked the 100-match milestone of coach Vu Hong Viet as the captain of the team from Thanh Nam. The coach born in 1979 was surprised by this information.

“Honestly, I had no idea this was my 100th match with Nam Dinh, I was very surprised and moved. Thank you to the club's leadership for always trusting and creating conditions for me and the coaching staff to wholeheartedly devote ourselves to our work,” coach Vu Hong Viet continued.

The Hanoi coach emphasized that the championship title is a worthy reward after 9 months of tireless efforts by the whole team. “I am very happy with what we have been through. This was a difficult journey, but the team has shown resilience, solidarity and a desire to win. From the beginning of the season, we set a goal and today, the whole team has achieved it,” he said.

Nam Dinh had some difficult times when their squad was constantly depleted by injuries. However, the members of the Southern team were united, overcame difficulties and stood on the pinnacle of glory for the second consecutive time.

In addition to his expertise, the strategist born in 1979 also did not forget to thank the fans. “Today’s success would not have been possible without the support of the fans. They are always with us, even when the team has to play away from home. The support from the stands is a great source of motivation for the whole team to play their best.”

At the end of round 25, Nam Dinh had 54 points, 8 points more than the second-placed team Hanoi and officially defended the V.League title. Although admitting that defending the championship is a big challenge, coach Vu Hong Viet believes that with the current spirit, Nam Dinh is capable of continuing to create surprises next season.
