FSG wants to acquire another football club. |
Initially, FSG aimed to acquire Malaga. However, this effort failed when Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) won the right to invest in the Spanish team. QSI is also the largest shareholder of PSG.
According to Marca , FSG decided to turn their attention to Getafe. Liverpool's owners conducted research and evaluated the feasibility of the deal. FSG found Getafe to be a prestigious club in La Liga, based in Madrid and with potential for future development.
However, FSG faced the stubbornness of Angel Torres, the President and major shareholder of Getafe. He is expected to continue in the position for at least the next 2 years. This has become a big obstacle for Liverpool's owners.
FSG is learning from the development model of City Football Group (CFG), the owner of Manchester City. CFG has been successful in developing franchise clubs in the US, Australia, France, Italy and Spain. In La Liga, Girona Club is under CFG's management.
FSG became the owner of Liverpool in 2010. Despite many attractive offers, the group never intended to sell the port city team to another investor.
FSG has helped Liverpool achieve significant success over the past decade, most recently winning the 2024/25 Premier League title. However, the group has also faced frequent criticism from some fans, mainly due to the lack of investment in the team.
In addition to Liverpool, FSG owns several other sports clubs, including the Boston Red Sox (baseball), Pittsburgh Penguins (hockey) and RFK Racing (Nascar racing).
