Nam Dinh Coach: 'Our next season will be even more difficult'

“Defending the championship this season is great, but I understand that next season will be even more difficult, as we have to compete in four different arenas. Therefore, the team will need to clearly define each specific goal. Perhaps after celebrating the championship, the team's leadership and I will sit down to discuss more thoroughly the direction in the coming time,” coach Vu Hong Viet shared after Nam Dinh's final match in V.League 2024/25 on the evening of June 22.

This is not the first time coach Vu Hong Viet has talked about Nam Dinh's successful defense of the championship in V.League 2024/25. The Hanoi -born coach believes that this is a difficult and arduous task. Winning the championship 1 round early is a success, but from now on, he and the team from Thanh Nam will have to think about next season when the team will compete in 4 arenas at the same time.

“This season, we had the opportunity to compete in the AFC Champions League Two and learned a lot. Even though we lost against strong teams, we learned a lot. From tactics, how to operate the game, to the fighting spirit. Those lessons helped the team improve a lot in the final stage of the V.League. The players also matured significantly after such matches,” he said about the players’ maturity after each match in the continental arena.

Returning to V.League 2024/25, until stepping onto the podium of glory, coach Vu Hong Viet still could not hide his joy and happiness. “Really, up to this moment, I feel very happy. This is the second time I have won the championship with Nam Dinh. The first time was difficult, but the second time was even more difficult. Therefore, when the team touched the title, it was a great honor for me and the whole team. Honestly, what else can be said at this time other than the two words "emotional".

The coach born in 1979 feels lucky to receive support from all the players, from the group's leaders to the local government. That trust is the motivation for him and the team to work, try and achieve today's achievements.

According to coach Vu Hong Viet, the most important factor leading to success is the solidarity of the whole team. The players showed a very high spirit of determination, especially during the difficult period when many key players were injured. The remaining players still practiced and competed with all their efforts to maintain the spirit and quality of the team. According to him, the players always maintaining solidarity is the core factor leading to success.

“In the coaching profession, pressure is inevitable. When you don’t do well, being replaced is very normal. But for me, the most important thing is to always maintain maximum concentration on the job, trying to do the best I can. And if there is ever a time when I don’t achieve success, I have no regrets because I have devoted 100% to my work,” Coach Vu Hong Viet concluded with his thoughts about his career.
