The 7-0 victory over the Maldives women's team helped the Vietnamese women's team get off to a good start in Group E - 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship Qualifiers, when the UAE women's team was held to a draw by Guam in the previous match.
Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung regretted that his players did not take advantage of their scoring opportunities: “We wanted to create a really good match to demonstrate the serious preparation of the whole team. However, the players missed many opportunities, including a penalty. In the second half, there were times when the players did not play really aggressively, maybe because they were somewhat satisfied with the result. I hope the whole team will continue to maintain their concentration and try harder in the next matches.”
Coach Mai Duc Chung also praised young striker Minh Chuyen and shared more about the reason Huynh Nhu did not play in the starting lineup: “This is Minh Chuyen’s first official match and he has shown clear progress, meeting professional requirements well. As for Huynh Nhu, I temporarily let him rest because of physical factors, not because of professional reasons.”
Striker Ngan Thi Van Su – who scored twice in the match – expressed her joy at contributing to the team’s victory: “These are my first goals for the Vietnamese women’s team this year, and I am very happy to continue scoring with my head despite not having the advantage of height. The whole team tried to play with dedication for the fans, although there were still some opportunities that we could not take advantage of. We will try to improve in the upcoming matches.”
