A cable of a bridge under construction on the Qinghai section of the Sichuan-Qinghai railway broke at around 3 a.m. on August 22, Xinhua reported.
The People's Daily newspaper said 15 workers and a project manager were at the construction site on the bridge over the Yellow River when the accident occurred. The accident killed at least seven people and nine others are still missing.

Images published on the People's Daily website show the bridge partially built, with the middle section still unfinished, with two giant scaffolding towers and several cranes.

Search and rescue efforts are underway.
Previously, in December 2024, 13 people went missing after a tunnel collapsed at a railway construction site in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. At that time, there were no reports of survivors.
