Since Tet, the price of live pigs has fluctuated at a high level. At the time of Tet consumption, the price of live pigs reached 74,000 VND/kg, then started to decrease, but still remained at a very good price. Ms. Tran Thi Thuan in Hoa Dinh Dong commune (Phu Hoa district) said: "Last week, my family just sold a litter of 10 pigs to a local trader at 67,000 VND/kg. Currently, there is still another litter in the barn that has reached a weight of nearly 90kg/pig. We are focusing on raising the pigs to reach over 100kg/pig and will give it to the farm." After selling this litter of pigs, Ms. Thuan's family will continue to breed the next litters so that the barn does not run out of pigs, always has pigs for intercropping, and can be raised and sold year-round.
With the current price of 67,000 VND/kg of live pigs, both small-scale farmers and medium- or large-scale farms have good profits. For each pig sold, farmers have a profit of about 800,000 VND to 1 million VND/pig, which is the profit level that pig farmers have long desired. Thanks to the high price of live pigs in recent months, farmers have boldly invested in re-raising and increasing their herds, pushing up the price of piglets accordingly.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trung, a pig farmer in An My commune (Tuy An district) said: Previously, piglets were sold by the kilo, each pig usually weighed 15-20kg, but now due to the high demand for breeding and herd expansion, households specializing in selling piglets only sell pigs by hand. Piglets will be sold in whole herds when they are 25-30 days old and have just been weaned. Each piglet usually weighs 7-11kg, the initial selling price is about 2 million VND/pig. My family just bought 10 piglets for more than 20 million VND. Hopefully, the price of live pigs will remain stable so that farmers can feel secure in production.
According to Mr. Truong Van Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Livestock, pig farming in the province is currently stable; concentrated farming, suitable to the advantages of each region, associated with disease safety. It is estimated that the total pig herd in the province is about 143,000, an increase of 16.7% over the same period. The recovery in livestock product prices in recent times is the result of many synchronous solutions of the agricultural sector in regulating supply - demand, effectively controlling diseases and promoting domestic and export product consumption...
