South Korea investigates spike in spam messages

Korean authorities reported that the number of "spam" messages (including calls for stock investment, impersonating public organizations, and loan recommendations) has increased sharply, causing inconvenience to phone users.

The cyberterrorism investigation unit of the Korean National Police Agency said it is investigating people who stole personal information from chat rooms opened on the KakaoTalk app, converted it into a database and sold it.

The investigation targets a large number of people involved in the leak of personal information, from hackers to representatives of mass messaging service companies.
