The Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) announced that a fleet of the country's navy, including the warships Xueshan and Lushan, is conducting high-intensity combat training in multiple areas.

According to the statement, the training took place day and night to test the emergency response capabilities of officers and soldiers, their ability to use weapons in practice and their ability to coordinate command in complex battlefield environments.

Training modules include handling complex and dynamic enemy situations at sea and in the air - such as suspicious targets, armed enemy fishing vessels, weapons threats....

Training includes rescuing injured people, handling fires and other challenging situations.

The US, Japan and the Philippines will launch joint naval patrols in the South China Sea later this year, a major move to counter China in the region – and one likely to provoke a strong reaction from Beijing, a US official and a foreign diplomat familiar with the matter said on March 29.

The three-nation naval patrol is part of a package of initiatives that US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will announce at their first trilateral summit next month, the sources said.
