According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ninh province, Quang Ninh has a coastline of nearly 250 km and a fishing ground of more than 6,100 km2. This is the place where thousands of fishing boats and more than 10,000 fishermen live and work in the sea near and far.
The Organizing Committee gives gifts and scholarships to fishermen's children.
Fishermen operate in many forms: cooperatives, teams, fishing unions, and households. Of these, there are 2 cooperatives with 12 ships and nearly 100 workers; 10 teams with 112 ships engaged in offshore fishing with more than 370 people; 5 unions with 135 ships and over 740 workers; and 17 production linkage models with up to 275 ships and 1,800 coastal workers.
Affirming the significance of the program "Lighting up the lanterns with fishermen", the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment hope that the gifts at the program will not only help people feel more secure in their work and production, but also share, encourage their spirit, and give them more strength to confidently stick to the sea and continue to go out to sea and stick to their profession.
The program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen" was launched in early 2023. Up to now, the program has taken place in coastal provinces and cities across the country, with a total implementation cost of more than 30 billion VND. Quang Ninh is the 24th locality where the newspaper has organized this program.
Fishermen excitedly received practical gifts from the program
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented 100 gifts to fishermen, each worth more than 4 million VND; 4 tablets and 20 scholarships (each worth about 3 million VND) to children of fishermen who are in difficult circumstances, have overcome difficulties and are good students.
According to the Organizing Committee, in addition to giving gifts, the program also organizes many practical activities: legal seminars on combating IUU, publishing the handbook "Things to know about fishing", the program "Responding to fishermen"... This is an effort to accompany people in raising legal awareness, aiming to remove the IUU "yellow card".
