According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training , the Vietnamese team at the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) 2025 won the same number of gold medals as the US and China, including 2 gold medals in the top 10.
This achievement belongs to: Ngo Quang Minh - grade 12 student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted (ranked 7th) and Nguyen Hoang Khoi - grade 12 student, High School for the Gifted (ranked 10th).
The remaining two gold medalists are Giang Duc Dung - grade 12 student, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (ranked 14th) and Nguyen Manh Tuan - grade 11 student, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (ranked 37th).

ICHO is the largest and most prestigious competition in the world, held annually for high school students in the field of Chemistry.
The ICHO exam consists of a theory test and a practical test, each lasting 5 hours.
At ICHO 2025, the practical exam requires candidates to master basic to advanced experimental skills, such as synthesizing and analyzing complexes, identifying amino acids, identifying organic compounds using thin layer chromatography techniques, titration, and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. This exam requires precision, logical thinking, and proficient laboratory operations.
Meanwhile, the theoretical exam revolves around environmental issues, technology or applications of chemistry in life such as: seawater desalination, solar energy, tennis balls, lanterns... requiring candidates to apply general knowledge and critical thinking to solve problems.
This year's exam structure is considered creative, close to real life but still ensures scientific depth.
The 57th ICHO was held from July 5-14, 2025 in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with the participation of 354 contestants from more than 90 countries and territories.
