Heavy rain lasting 3 days due to the circulation of storm No. 5 has overloaded Hanoi's entire drainage system. As of 7:00 a.m. on August 27, automatic rain gauges still recorded 127mm of rain in Dong Anh, 100mm in Kim Anh, 100mm in Trau Quy, 74mm in Soc Son, etc.

On the morning of August 27, many roads in Hanoi were still flooded. Some areas were still deeply flooded such as Thang Long Avenue, Hoai Duc urban area, Xa La intersection (Pham Tu), National Highway 32 through Tan Tay Do...

Vehicles cannot pass through these locations. The Dam Quang Trung - Co Linh intersection is also deeply flooded, causing traffic congestion.

The reason many places are still flooded is because the current system of regulating lakes in Hanoi is "full of water". At the same time, drainage rivers such as To Lich River, Nhue River... are at high levels due to rainwater flowing from Hanoi's inner city and from upstream.
Water on rivers drains slowly because the water level of Day River and Tich River in the West and Southwest of Hanoi is rising rapidly.
When the water level in the Nhue River or the Day River is higher than the inner city, the sluices must be closed to prevent water from overflowing, so the inner city water can only be drained by forced pumping at large stations such as Yen So, Dong Bong, and Co Nhue.

Currently, Hanoi Drainage Company has mobilized all its capabilities to drain water in Hanoi's inner city. Yen So pumping station (in the South of Hanoi) is operating at full capacity of 90m3 /second. At the same time, more than 2,000 drainage workers are on duty, opening the discharge gates of a series of regulating lakes such as Bay Mau, Thien Quang, Truc Bach, Giang Vo, etc.

According to SGGP Newspaper's reporter, since yesterday afternoon and evening, flood water of the Day River and Tich River in Hanoi has begun to rise quite rapidly, causing flooding of some bridges across the Day River in An Khanh and Hung Dao communes... in Hanoi. The rising water of the Day River has reduced the drainage capacity of the Nhue River and To Lich River.

At the same time, the risk of flooding is also high along the rivers. The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention has sent a dispatch to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment requesting urgent review and protection of dikes at vulnerable locations, increased patrolling and guarding, and timely reporting of incidents for coordination in handling.
The Northern Hydrometeorological Station said that on August 27, rain continued in many areas of the North. Hanoi still had moderate rain, heavy rain with thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain. From this afternoon, the rain gradually decreased. The meteorological agency warned that the risk of tornadoes, lightning, strong gusts of wind in thunderstorms, the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides remained high, and continued monitoring and response was needed.
