Hanoi: More than 3,000 drug cases are solved each year

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Duc Long, Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police, said that the crime and drug situation in the city has complicated developments. On average, every year, Hanoi City Police has detected and arrested more than 3,000 drug cases, with about 5,000 subjects, accounting for about 15% of the total number of cases nationwide.

Along with fighting crime, the city also focuses on promoting propaganda and preventioneducation with diverse contents and forms. The management of drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehabilitation management is closely directed, contributing to the overall achievements in drug prevention and control.

However, this work is still facing many new difficulties and challenges. Along with the socio -economic development, many new types of drugs have appeared. More worryingly, drugs are spreading among students, posing a great risk to the future of the younger generation.

"It is noteworthy that nearly 1,200 new psychotropic substances have appeared in the world. The fact that new drugs are disguised as food, drinks, and e-cigarettes makes young people confused, thereby creating unpredictable consequences, making it difficult to prevent drugs from entering schools in particular and cities in general," said Colonel Nguyen Duc Long.

On behalf of the Steering Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control in Hanoi, the Deputy Director of Hanoi Police requested agencies, organizations, localities and functional forces to effectively implement a number of key contents. In particular, it is necessary to raise awareness and identify drug prevention and control as not only a political task but also a humanitarian mission, associated with the safety, stability and sustainable development of the country; protecting the lives, health, peaceful and happy lives of the people.

“Specialized forces with the core being the City Police force need to grasp early, from afar, from the grassroots; strengthen state management of conditional investment and business sectors; services sensitive to security and order; proactively prevent and thoroughly combat acts of buying, selling, harboring, using, and illegally producing drugs,” said Colonel Nguyen Duc Long.

The city police also continue to detect, count and manage drug addicts and illegal drug users; promote the exploitation and application of the National Population Database in the management of drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehabilitation management...

"Promote the strength of the entire political system and the entire population in communicating about the dangers of drugs and the results of drug prevention and control; spread the spirit of "Every citizen is a soldier, every family is a fortress"", the Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police emphasized.
